Match Thread Iowa dual thread - Jan 31

Need Madden and bordo to show what they got.

As Iowa strengthens their claim as the new Mercenary U, the late season Lion-Hawk dual will outshine any November national tournament coming down the pike. Just as this latest one, future meetings will match our primarily home-grown squad against one of high-AA gunslingers from around the nation, culled (and highly compensated) from the prior March tournament’s after-party.
In my increasingly feeble mind, that gives the more organic, in-house Lion team a bit of an underdog vibe that I enjoy immensely.

I think you're giving Gabe a little too much credit. I think he just likes to trash talk. Fine if he can back it up. But I think he's not quite there yet and he's going to find that out Friday night. Maybe painfully so.

I see an Over/under of 3.5.
For both Iowa TD's and matches won (per another post). I'll take the under for both.

After Carter wrestles against Iowa on Friday he would only have to wrestle one of the remaining five regular season matches to still be in the running for 100 career victories. Color me shocked if he sits those last five matches.
Ah. I misread. I thought extra matches somewhere. My bad.

On the other hand, since he doesn’t actually have a go to shot ….might be best to avoid opponents entirely until nationals. Lol.

With 6 top-5 wrestlers this is Iowa's best team since 2021. I don't see it being a walkover. There is a path for Iowa to keep it uncomfortably close.

133 is the only weight where they are favored, but 149, 157, 174, and 197 are all within reach, IMO. I know most people already have 174 chalked into the PSU win column, but Levi's match against Turley hinted that he might not have the same strength advantage he enjoyed at 157.

Levi is the better wrestler, but Kennedy is a 5th-year disciple of Barnds' hand-fighting and stalling techniques.

That said, if everything goes our way, it will be a walkover.

would agree about PK as he seemingly controlled the tie-ups a couple of years ago against Facundo

197 is also a favorite for Iowa.

And I don't see Kennedy as much of a threat to Haines.

149 is going to be a good match. Parco has legitimately gotten better. 157? Who knows. Going to find out where Teemer's tank is.

I think the most intriguing match is Buchanan-Barr. Buchanan has made a big jump. He's wrestling with a lot more confidence.

Someone indicated that the ref on Friday night will be the same ref for the tOSU vs Iowa dual last week. If that's the case, Brands may have to be a little more careful about his matside manners. If I recall correctly, the ref gave him a warning last week when he seemed to be complaining about one the ref's calls. As far as rules go, a warning from one dual doesn't carry over to the next dual. But refs do remember things and this one just might be a little more sensitive to another display of bad behavior. If Brands wants to be competitive, losing team points isn't a good direction to go.

This is a VERY good Iowa team. No doubt. Title winners in any other era.

I like that this VERY good Iowa team needed other colleges to develop their wrestlers for them. And their fans wonder why Cael beats their ass in the recruiting game. And I'll say this, I'm not one of those saying how much better Teemer, Parco and Buchanon are now that they are getting coaching at Iowa. To me, they are what they are....or should I say were.

Any sharps in here? Lol, What’s u guys think of the DraftKings line on the PSU v Iowa dual? It’s PSU-21.5 could be a good bet to make some money?

The same ref who Terry called an asshole or asswipe? The same ref whose stall call on Teemer caused Tom to question his objectivity since he was from Ohio.

If I was that dude, I’d be on a hair trigger to ring their asses up. Plus, I’d stall Teemer out by the 2nd if he played his back up game
