Oh and by the way, you didn't tell us why Vanderlinden did not get the job despite being better qualified than Butler. If it had nothing to do with Vandy's abilities, what was the reason?

BO'B was never going to make Vandy DC, BO'B didn't hire Vandy he hired Butler, BO'B loyalties were to Butler. I am really surprised Vandy made it to year 2 of BO'B, there was no way he was making it to year 3. Has nothing to do with anyone's qualifications, it has to with pecking order and who hired whom.

to start, I am not making an evaluation on Butler's ability one way or the other. What I am saying is because BO'B hired Butler, it makes sense (at least in coaching sense) that he would make him DC over Vandy. BO'B didn't hire Vandy, and as I mentioned I was surprised he lasted as long as he did.

As far as to why Vandy is not at another powerhouse given his resume, great question. Biggest problem Vandy has is, JVP cant pick up the phone and tell some young whipper snapper like Steve Spurier to hire him, or call anybody else for that matter. Look at the guys on Bear Bryant last staff, what happened to them?? Some turned out okay, others just went on.
You know guys who have coached at TCU, Maryland, LSU, Ga, NCST, and then end up at Campbell. It just happens sometimes.

I don't doubt what you say a bit and that's is why O'Brien should not be a head coach or any kind of manager. Successful HCs will put the most qualified man he can find in these positions. That's is why I didn't like O'Brien.
You guys can lavish all kind of praise on him; I'm glad he's gone!

Vandy had other opportunities while he was at Penn State, he was loyal to Penn State as long as he was treated right. Ditto Larry Johnson.
