Starting with Charles Huff:

On running back versatility:

Have backs that all do different things from each other. It allows them to be themselves without having to try to be the person in front of them. Can play faster, be more confident and produce more.

On place kicker handling pressure:

It's no different from any position. Eyes are on kicker more, but with any young player, not sure how they'll play until they're in the game. The author of pressure is preparation. it's the same technique under any circumstance, if you've prepared.

On options at kick and punt returner:

Have options. Grant Haley is still here. Have some young guys. Thompkins was redshirted last year. Nick Scott. Koa Farmer did it in high school. A lot of options last year were redshirting. It's a good group this year. A big part of their film was special teams plays. They'll give them a chance to move forward this year.

On Thompkins:

He brings competition. Competition brings depth. Depth brings options. He was one of faster players on team when he came in. Will force a competition. Having options is what you want. Can't pay guys or cut guys. So only way to truly motivate is with playing time. That's when you start getting to level of competition you want, when practices are tougher than games.

On explosive plays in special teams last year vs. this:

Interpretation of being aggressive is a process. Established mindset of pace they wanted to play at last year with limitations in scholarships. At end of the year, pick out 20-30 big plays. Standard is different for Huff than public. When you get 10 guys blocking their guy, that's when you get a touchdown. This year it's about putting guys in places so that you can see the results.

On Julius' weight:

Joey is a big individual, but he's always been a bigger individual. Bigger frame guy. He moves pretty well. Not big and slow. He's pretty athletic. Getting him to put the weight in good places, but it's a process. Biggest thing among specialists is consistency. Have to eliminate 'close' and get to 'great job, we did it.'
