Football LIVE / GAME THREAD -- 2023 Blue-White Spring Game!

Sutton is going to be tough. Rojas looks ready to contribute. Both teams pass rushes are getting there quickly. As usual, the O is behind the D in the spring.
Living out here in Ohio, I listened to some of the OSU Spring game (1st half) and their defense was dominating.

Listening, not watching. Curious what exactly you mean there? Love the insight.

He's not here. Didn't stick to his verbal and went somewhere else.
Sorry back to my laptop now... It just wasn't the cleanest first half but it had it's moments of positives. A lot of ups-and-downs as you would expect in a practice.

Allar looks pretty good to me. He's been rushed relentlessly, but has done about the best he could have. He also ran a few times but the QB's are down by touch. He's a big boy and won't go down that easy against WVU. He can wing it and when he's gotten time has made some nice throws. Couple other time he was just trying to get rid of it but still got it to the RB's.

So far so good. Maybe in the 2nd half Diaz will put the starting DE's on ice and give the 3rd team some reps which should give Allar more time and lead to some consistency in the passing game.

Also, McClain looked good early on a couple catches.

Evans has gotten the most opportunities at WR and has made good on them.
i get it, the DL is getting a lot of pressure but Allar can throw some REALLY ugly balls...needs to harness that incredible arm

Amiel Davis at RB looking pretty good at RB. Not yet Hiffelfinger (or whatever) good. But the kid does not go down easy and he actually has B10 RB size at 6' 210lbs

Allar with a lazer to Saunders who made a nice catch and fell forward.

A good many positives from the WR's today so far.

Tyler Johnson still looks too small and week. But the rest look like they can contribute.

Millen still thinks Rojas needs to get up to Brother Pizza for some more pounds.....

Good to see a Saunders sighting! What about Tre Wallace?

Other thing that has to be tough in this type of game is the defenses know the formations.... which gap to shoot..... etc.....

Defenses on both sides definitely have a big advantage in this type of game due to familiarity.

Maybe. The offense has been playing against the same guys all spring so it should be equally easy for them to ID reads and coverages.

Wallace was in early, but has sit for the depth players to get snaps based on what I have listened to.

Yep, Wallace in early when the DL was in Allar's face from the snap.

Evans stepped up big time (which Franklin mentioned in brief post game interview), and I thought both Saunders and McClain did well in their limited opportunities to make plays. Saunders did let one zing through his hands (Allar the zinger) in the 4th quarter that he should have caught, and Franklin was out on the field to I believe tell him to focus and make that catch the next time. Ivey got a couple catches late as well.

Hard to believe Franklin post game again called Dani Dennis Sutton Dani Dennis Daniels.......... We don't need him trending towards Biden ..... Just kidding......

Frankln also singled out Winston as being all over the field all game. Safety position is in good hands for next couple years.

Carter post game interview.

Better understanding and now ability to help his team mates get in correct position.

If he was coming out this year I'd want hm in Black & Gold.

Allar comments about offense coming along. But need to improve in all areas. Long fun summer ahead putting in the work to get on same page with WR's and TE's.

Overall I believe we should be optimistic with McClain, Evans and Saunders battling with Cephus for the 2 deep at the 3 WR positions, i.e. as long as Franklin and Hagans are on the money with their analysis about Harrison. KLS we have seen enough of to believe he'll play well, but still has to up his game to be a B10 #1 WR.

KLS, Harrison, Evans, McClain, Cephus, and Saunders. Still work to do but from those 6 PSU should form an above average WR room for 2023. And we know the TE's will be very good. If the OL gives Allar time there will be big plays.

We writing off Anthony Ivey?

I think it's easy to list names but I'm not sure how well any of them can get separation or win 50/50 balls in traffic. As far as I'm concerned we don't have a go-to receiver at this point. Hopefully at least two of them will emerge.

Maybe we can do more with our TEs but that doesn't seem to be Franklin's style.

Omari Evans breakout season incoming? Has five catches today for 80 yards and one touchdown.
Wait & see. It was the Blue & White game. He certainly has lots of upside which hopefully carrys over into fall camp and the season. Apparently McClain ( FSU transfer) had some nice catches early on according to Steve & Jack.

Both TE's were not playing. Dinkins and Cross played. They both don't look their stated weights but catch the ball well. We might miss the blocking of 86 from last year. Hopefully, 84 & 44 take another step in blocking development.

O-line was being switched up all day and really inconsistent. Should be good on paper, but not so much today.

Allar made some throws that showed his abilities but was really pressured by Sutton all day. Never looked comfortable. Pribula looked more comfortable but was also running for his life most of the day. Nothing deep and difficult to evaluate receivers other than what has already been said.

Carter is clearly the best guy on the field. Your eyes naturally gravitate to him because he is just going another speed and doesn't slow down even when an O lineman tries to get in his way. Manny just has to unleash him for games.

Terry Smith has a lot of very good cover corners. We should just play man. Safety should not be a problem either. Secondary was difficult to keep track of because every play there was a new number coming up big.

Difficult to gauge D tackle play as there was not a lot of up the middle running. Wasn't a lot of room for runs or anything else against first team D. Tackles are quick but will they hold up to a physical beating? We'll see in 6 months.

Dani-Sutton will play to his 5* potential. He will be special. Seems determined to get there. Pass rush should be very good, especially with Carter blitzing. If we put 28, 33, 44, 20 and 11 in and send them after a quarterback, we should be fine. Other D ends look good as well.

Didn't see any injuries, so that is a big plus.
