LIVE THREAD: Penn State vs. Lehigh (Sunday, Dec. 5th, 2 PM)

From my seat it was straight up ridiculous for Negron. The first TD negated Tony had both legs wrapped at the thigh and Humphreys bellied to the mat, palms down. Then, and only then, did Humphreys reach for the leg which is apparently why Rivera decided it wasn’t a take down. If he were applying reaction time, it doesn’t include Humphreys not engaged with his hand and being allowed to reach out after at TD to become a non TD.

The second non-TD Negron was cross body, again with both legs wrapped and head to the side, then Humphreys sat on his arse. TD. Then Humphreys shifts to move Negron off balance over his left hip and somehow Rivera still decides it’s no control. When it should have been control first and Negron fighting to keep it.

Bartlett’s non call, while it should have been an escape, is also a mistake on Bartlett. Don’t look up and wonder at the ref. You have 9.8 seconds to get 1. Go Get it. Push away. Don’t leave things in a refs hands. It was an escape tho.

And just for fun, I had leave Rec to head to the airport during Max’s match. But I got to hear Byers scream with glee over Gabe’s pin. Twice. ;)
I'm with you on these. Bartlett - I was wondering if that edge call would come back to haunt him.... he needed to keep moving..actually should have been stalling on one of the wrestlers as it appeared they were simply waiting for one another to make a move. The takedown no calls were perplexing as in each case they were on their fanny without control.. makes you wonder about how quick the calls were in the ncaa championships when a touch of the hand to the mat signifies 2 (recall Cenzo/Imar match)...
Bartlett executes really well when he executes. He's going to be good. I can understand not simply shooting just to shoot as you don't want to get stuck under.. Would like some more motion to create shots... Needs GHulks high crotch!

Imagine that dude playing catch and release for first period techs.
Imagine the first time he faces a Lehigh or OKST guy who backs up to the edge, he pushes them out and -- no pushout! -- he gets dinged for stalling.

Did not actually see the matches only know what I was reading on the match PBP posted in this string. The Ref can call a delayed escape even if down wrestler is face-to-face with opponent in Neutral Position if the wrestlers have remained in contact via some type of clench. At any point was there complete separation between BB and Lehigh wrestler? Even if there wasn't, BB should have been awarded a point at end as long as he maintained a position where they were face-to-face on their feet (i.e., if he let the Lehigh wrestler improve his position while delayed call was in effect, the escape gets waived.

At the time of the most separation while facing each other, the Lehigh kid still had a "seatbelt" on Beau's waist. I can't speak to the rules in that situation, but I can say it looked like an escape to me. If it had been called an escape, it is also interesting, because then the Lehigh kid would have gotten a TD soon afterward. Of course, if it had been reversed upon review, the match would have been tied w/ 9 seconds left. Good learning opportunity for Beau.

Well Angel is like the new version of Freddy Ambrose who finally ‘retired’ a number of years ago …. one of those refs who always had to insert himself in matches he was reffing. Angel has a habit of always finding a way to be the main topic of matches he calls when Penn State guys are wrestling and not in a positive way. Someone needs to explain the ‘no reaction time’ concept to him …there had to be 5 or 6 situations yesterday where he didn’t get the call right.

Could you define what you mean by the "no reaction time" concept?

Yes. Good learning. And if he had pushed himself away instead of looking at the ref for the call, the TD that followed wouldn’t have happened.

I’ve looked at Tony’s first waved off TD and still can’t figure out how Rivera decided it wasn’t a TD. Legs wrapped, chest and hands on the mat. No TD. Lol.

Rule 2.6. WR 17 says. ..A takedown is awarded when from neutral position a wrestler gains control by taking opponent to the mat in bounds ...if defensive wrestler's hand comes in contact with the mat it is considered control.

If he never achieved full separation (even if he had achieved an escape position), the Ref will delay the escape call until they go OB or there is actual separation between the wrestlers (If the former down wrestler goes back to mat in control, he is only awarded a Reversal, not 2 + 1. However, if the former top wrestler is in control when they go back to the mat under the "delayed escape provision" [i.e., the wrestlers stay engaged and in contact even in the standing face-to-face position position], he is not awarded 2 points, he simply remains in control.).

"No Reaction Time" only applies when rear standing neutral control is obtained and then the hand touches. All* other scoring requires reaction time.

*entirely possible there's something else I'm missing, but nothing that applies here.

I am glad Beard didn't go. Max has proven himself to me, but I don't think it is 100% settled in Cael's eyes, and if Beard is 201 he is still right there ready. You have to love the depth. Short of needing that match for the dual, nothing good comes from going with guy 80 lbs heavier. I like having an AA insurance policy on hand, not a repeat of Cassar's shoulder.
