Logan Stieber retires from wrestling... Didn't see this coming

I rode an escalator to the upper deck with him and his wife before finals in Pittsburgh. I still can't believe the NCAA doesn't do something to take better care of a 4xer.

That is a surprise.

Best of luck to Logan in his coaching career. He's a great wrestler and never made excuses when things got tough.

Curious. Your thought never really crossed my mind. Does the NCAA take care of any legend in any sport? Should they? That would seem to be a school thing.

One of the greatest USA wrestlers. Unbelievable 4Xer at the high school and college level and a world champ in freestyle.

Not referring to him specifically, but I would think lots of wrestler's wives must be eager for their husbands to retire.

I had a chance to have a brief conversation with him at an NWCA All-Star match years ago. He came across as an incredible young man. He was very polite and humble. I wish him the best of luck moving forward and enjoyed watching him wrestle. (Although, that was NOT two!)

Always a class act like all of the tOSU guys. Always enjoyed watching him compete.
I'll never forget the picture of Stieber standing in the center of the mat with his hand out, after just beating Ramos. Ramos didn't behave the best, but Stieber was very gracious. I agree that the tOSU guys behave well. I love to cheer against them (after all, we're rivals), but I give them credit for how they handle themselves. Iowa doesn't in general have as great a testimony that way, but I've always liked the way Lee, Kemerer, Sorenson and Brooks handle themselves.

who all beat him in college? i reckon its a tiny list

found this "Stieber finished his NCAA career with a record of 119-3"
i'll keep hunting down the names

ESPN would take care of him, if he had changed weights 2 more times.

I've never had occasion to ride an escalator with other NCAA sports legends, so I don't know. The NCAA certainly holds tickets for other people, so why not the maximum of eight tickets it could take for the current 4xers, if they would want them and don't have other plans that night?

Honestly, I put that on tOSU, not the NCAA. tOSU should be taking care of a 4xer. I guess now we know how Tom handles things.

It's hard to overstate how good Stieber was his JR year. He had 3 regular decision matches all year -- all 3 were vs. a future 3x champ/2x Hodge winner. Every other opponent got bonused.

He probably had great seats, sold those, took the nose bleeds from a scalper at the arena.....and laughed the rest of the trip with it paid for.

That's World Champion Logan Stieber retires from wrestling. Wow....

> Tom Ryan:
@_LogieBear_ Retires as one of the best of All-Time. (A) 4x State Champ, (B) 4x Big 10 Champ, (C) 4x NCAA Champ, (D) World Champ! (E) Led HS team to state title,
(F) @wrestlingbucks to NCAA Title and
(G) @USAWrestling to World Team Title.”
That is some resume! Does anyone else American come close to checking off the equivalent list (A) to (G)? Cael is missing at least (F) and (G).

I don't want to pick nits here, but saying Logie Bear **led** USA to a World Team Title is a little strong.

He went 1-2 and was only 2 wrestlers to not medal that year.

Ha ha. I had forgotten. Classic Tom Ryan!

One superlative aside, from a man known to exaggerate, I'm choosing to not nitpick. Instead, I'd hope we could recognize his outstanding accomplishments.

Yeah, that was probably unnecessary.

Logan is one of the greatest US wrestlers that I got to watch. He's certainly earned his many accolades.

Agree completely, and he's classy to boot. He'll do well as a coach.

This video has been posted before but this thread seems like an appropriate place to link what was a match of two young high school kids both destined to be all time wrestling greats.
