LOL PSU preparing to deal with TAMU

ugh.... Dodd is a complete idiot AND an SEC homer to boot. congrats on clicking on his nonsense article and justifying his existence.

This brings up another point though. What ever happened to journalism? I'm not talking about what we have today but legitimate fact-based journalism? "The guy who serves coffee to the guy who cuts the hair of the guy who empties the trash in the office of the BoT says that ATM is making a run at CJF, so it HAS to be true. let's run the story!! we don't have to worry about our reputation anyway, so eff it!"

The only 2 million dollar buyout for this year is a little worrisome!!
Look at the bright side.

Next year and for the remainder of the deal, the buyout drops to $1MM.

aTm is one of the few that has more financial throw-weight than we do. And where there is smoke, there usually is fire.

Not good at all. If nothing else it is poison for recruiting.

Well it was fun while it lasted.

I sure hope this is sarcasm. CJF is not going anywhere, and the recruits know this

TAMU can't deal with an African American coach now with having racial issues against him. Why would Coach Franklin put his family in that situation? Plus, why step down. That program has never been an equal to PSU let alone above us.
That's the key point. TAMU simply isn't in PSU's class. Not before, not now, not ever.

aTm has unlimited money to throw around. You need to take every threat seriously.

$9MM/yr? I would not put it past them. What would YOU do if someone was going to make you the highest paid in America?

1) Have you been to College Station? It is honestly the ugliest college campus I have ever been to (yes, I have also been to Pitt and Rutgers).

2) He currently makes $5M. Although more money is nice, it's not like he is currently underpaid.

3) As others have pointed out, they will not hesitate to run coaches out of town, i.e. it is not a lifetime job, even if you have success (i.e. they are currently well poised to make a major bowl and they are talking about firing Sumlin).

Yeah, come on dude, get a hold of yourself. Franklin would not be entertaining this right now right in the middle of the season. How could he possibly look himself in the mirror or his team that he is asking so much of?

That assumes PSU wouldn't counter offer. I think they would. But it's moot. No way in hell is he going there.

PSU is supposedly preparing to deal with TAMU coming after CJF.

I will say it now. ABSOLUTELY 0% Chance that he leaves PSU for TAMU

So he'll leave his home state and region where he has anchored in firm ties in recruiting and fan base, is enjoying success and is among the top 5 paid coaches in the country...... to leave for a place he has zero ties and has a habit of running coaches out of town. Sure, makes sense.

aTm needs a Texas guy for their job. This is pure media click bait.

Not to mention many of the coaches on the staff are also tied to Pennsylvania and the region.

The article basically just say "Penn State officials" bracing for aTm to make a run at Franklin if they fire Sumlin.

So question becomes, how would potential info like this surface? Consider:

It would be illegal for aTm to approach Franklin without contacting the school first. Even taking that aside, there is less than 0 chance this would be done in October with a 4-2 and 6-0 big name schools involved in the equation.

The most likely scenario of what happened was Dodd sliced and diced a PSU officials comments into something they weren't, combined it with potential big school openings and fired off a 20 second article and Tweet to get clicks.

This isn't the NFL. There is nothing stopping a school from talking to someone other than common courtesy.

Illegal? Uh, no it isn't.

Take away the couple of years of Johnnie Football and what has TA&M done at all in the past couple of decades. Who wants that job. Always paying second fiddle to Texas. State gets raided by Oklahoma and LSU and every other SEC school along with all the other Big 12. Have very little national footprint outside of Texas.

No disrespect meant to those who lost their lives in the tragedy in 1999, but I just can't see A&M luring away James Franklin.

Jobs as good or better than Penn State IMO:

Texas
Ohio State
Michigan
Alabama

Next tier:

LSU
So Cal (maybe)
Florida State
Florida
Notre Dame

Texas? Seriously????

Yes. Well funded, historically successful, extremely fertile recruiting ground, insane focus on football, great campus/place to live; biggest negative is they’re rebuilding their culture a bit and they’re in the Big 12. Franklin could kill it there IMO.

Note - that list wasn’t in order or anything.

Any job in college football is only as good as the state of the program when you take it.

Texas is not a great job right now. They are in their second rebuild in five years. Other than a couple years under Mack, they have been relatively obscure since the Nixon administration. There name doesn't elicit the same thought as "Alabama", and truthfully there name didn't mean squat again until Saban arrived.

Look at the difference in our own school today vs when BOB or Franklin came in. It's night and day.

What I'm hearing is different: I'm hearing they are looking at Urban Meyer. I can say this because it has just as much accuracy as James Franklin. Herby won't like it though, because it doesn't pass his eye test. So what?

Urban Meyer to Texas A & M: Gig 'em.

It’s a great job and always will be if and until the administration decides it isn’t. A good coach will kill it there if they can handle high expectations and the influence of big money boosters.

Evidently Narduzzi and Dantonio have Dodd on speed dial. They started a rumor about CJF before.... No reason to think they won't do it again.

Strong is a good coach. Not great, but he won at Louisville and is winning at USF. He didn't win at Texas. Brown fell off sharply and Hermann isn't doing much better with Strong's recruits yet.

It's got money and high expectations, but the majority of the tradition is 40+ years old...

There a few, if any, copy editors....story editors, etc. Just content providers and salesmen. That is what happened.

Strong was never a good fit from the beginning. Clashed with boosters and not a ‘rebuild’ type of coach. I don’t know that Hermann is the guy either - but if Saban or Meyer or Franklin went there they would have success IMO - and lots of it.

Yup - blogs and bloggers suddenly became journalists and fact checking went out the window. The need to be first instead of accurate is today’s mantra. Thanks internet!

As much as I love what Franklin has done, I can't wholeheartedly say he's "instant success" like Saban and Meyer YET. He's well on his way, and I hope we compete for titles for the next dozen years. Meyer and Saban are just at a higher level that Franklin currently only lacks time and continued success from having a seat at the same table.

Texas? Seriously????

I used to think Texas was the top job.

They effed themselves up by driving everybody out of the conference and having no marquee TV deals. The LHN gets no exposure compared to the BTN.

I would put USC in the top 5. Maybe even top 1 or 2. They have a rich history, wealthy alumni base, talented backyard, and are a top 4 sports attraction in the 2nd largest city, which helps them recruit nationally as well as anybody.

Are there people who seriously think Franklin would leave PSU for Texas AM. Go to a lower profile school in Texas just when he has PSU on the cusp of being a perennial top 5 program. Some people are wacky

Coincidental click bait with no backing source or a true show me the money and let's see what happens?

A&M isn't in disarray by any means. They just have Saban on the schedule yearly. Beating Michigan and Ohio State in the same season @ PSU has much better odds of happening than beating Saban in a given season. How many coaches, currently employed, have more than 1 win vs Saban at Bama? Does Meyer?

Outside of them throwing some insane amount of money, I can't see it.
What does this have to do with Elizabeth Shue? STAY WITH THE PROGRAM!!!!!
