Maranelli needs a Cenzo to perform at his best. There wasn’t one this year. Always thought last year would be his best shot. He just wasn’t at his best this year. Warner, Murin, and Young are others that are just good placers but probably not going to get more from them. They have to figure out how to get Assad (184) and Kennedy (174) into the lineup.
If you're willing to do it, it would be pretty cool if you could keep a running list in your first message, and update/edit that message as the info comes in. That way, we wouldn't have to search through what will likely become a long thread to find the info.
it's a nice idea, but @ptomaselli didn't set the thread up for that. He posted about Marinelli, and I took the Subject line he used, placed it in his post, and changed the Subject line to address all seniors.
If he wants to take that on, more power to him. I certainly won't complain. I'm happy if folks just keep all the announcements in one thread.

Missing is Kemerer. Also Missing is a statement from Spencer Lee about next year
If Lee has torn ACLs in both knees, I'm sure even he is not certain about what he's going to do next year.
Kemerer is darn good, but Kennedy is a solid replacement. I am damn confident one of the highly knowledgeable HR guys will splain to us how Kennedy is going to gas Starocci.
Spencer's silence means nothing, at least I think so.

certainly the best approach, and even announcements made in the hours following the end of NCAAs shouldn't be taken as the gospel. But fans will be fans. Heck we had threads in the middle of NCAAs about next year's PSU roster.
So we learned one thing...Jesus is not as good as Cael at getting his wrestlers to perform their best at NCAAs.
IMO Assad is clearly the more talented wrestler, and I think he wins back the position next year short of hitting the portal. I believe that he lost the wrestle off with Brands. Tough call since wrestling of against the guy you go with every practice can be a tough if not misleading measure. How do you really know who will be better against everyone else? Apparently Cael looks at more than just wrestle off results. I think Iowa and tOSU go with the winner 100%.
To be fair, early on Brands looked really good face stomping Valez.
It is also possible Brands told Assad if he did not let Brands win the wrestle off Brands would eat Assad alive.

Actually......this article came out after he tore his ACL but before he announced that he had torn his ACL. If he doesn't make the Olympics.....There might be a slight chance he takes a redshirt to get his ACLs fixed but there is no way he isn't going to come back and try to be the 5th wrestler in history to be a 4X NCAA Champ. None
I don't think there was a wrestle off and Assad didn't wrestle a single match all year - not even a bonus/extra one. There was one freestyle match before the season started that Brands won decisively. Tea leaves suggest he was hurt all year, but Iowa didn't really say.
The wrestle-offs are part of the decision, but definitely not the only factor.
Iowa typically uses the Midlands as the determining factor in who gets the nod at a contested weight. Highest placer usually is the starter from that point. Now if they struggle in duals, others may get their chance to step up.
Before I saw his, I was actually considering starting a thread for that purpose, and thought I'd check with him, since this thread had already grown legs. I'm still willing to do it. If I start a new thread, can you merge this one below the first message in the new thread? That way I can keep the first message updated as new announcements come in.

I could merge the threads, but when I do that I can't control where the different posts appear in the merged thread. They align based on their time stamp, so your new post would be the last one in the merged thread.
A beter alternative (I think) would be for you to start a new thread. You could pull a couple of the tweets from this thread into it, but could keep the top post as a running tracker that you edit and update. Then I would take this thread, convert it back to the title that @ptomaselli initially had, and then lock it so it's not competing with your thread.
I think it is pretty obvious Brands picked the starter based off of who "Enjoys Wrestling" more, and the Younger Brands Press Conference solidified his starting spot
I do enjoy reading HR from time to time, They actually have some great stuff. Although when they derail, They take out an entire city block with them.
My favorite Rabbit hole they often go down, is the recent trend of pointing at a Few PSU wrestlers that moved to PSU during High shool senior year or Greyshirted and then pretending that a "Freshman" is as old or now has as much experience as a 5-7 year Iowa Senior. There is a Reason you are statistically far more likely to AA as a Junior or Senior having not as a Freshman/Sophomore- Than to AA as a Freshman/Sophomore and than not your Junior/Senior years (Barring Injury and I mean within a few placement levels- finishing 3rd as a junior and then 5th as a senior does not meet the criteria of Regression in my book because every season has new faces and development/Scouting)
