As a Penn State diehard and family spanning classes of 82, 12, 18, this season was the most fun since 2005. 2016 was a great year but we were disrespected and not allowed to compete in the Playoff when we were peaking at the end.
Franklin has built the team to be top 12 just about every year. Playoffs will keep happening and our fan base should not be spoiled. Don’t underestimate how hard that is— Alabama found out. Now we need to take the next step- compete with Oregon and Ohio State ( lost by 8 and 7 points) when they buy elite talent on the open market with their billionaire money. We finally have some of this money too, but not at our competition level. Franklin has to do more with culture (retaining players like Singleton who turned down millions more by staying— since they had character and loyalty instilled by people like Nick’s dad). We are fortunate to have high character guys identified by Coach Franklin (and high character parents ).
We had a blast at 15 windchill Beaver Stadium for CFP Christmas week Saturday and now enjoying Saturday at Miami Beach as I see sun beaming off the ocean and making the hard decision of how much time to spend at beach vs pool sipping on drinks while surrounded by Penn Staters at Fontainebleu Hilton. Special family time following our Lions. Franklin does things the right way— Joepa would be proud of how he values each player, their education and growth and maximize pro potential. Look at the large group that may get drafted this year.
We made Top 4 this year. Drew showed a lot of growth- adversity will mature him and game will slow down next year. QB gets all the blame- on last play if one of our lineman (not going to post his number) wouldn’t have lost his man blocking, Drew would have had time to go to the 4th progression which was Singelton coming wide open about seven yards to the right. It’s a team sport and Drew has all the talent in the world- he just needs to relax and feel confident- it will
Come next year. National Championship game is here next year. Depending on decisions in next 5 days (deadline Jan 16), we may be shocked that a lot of team comes back with NIL and dream of getting Franklin and PSU to top.
Kudos, James to hard work and doing it the right way. This Class of 82 guy thanks you for the bonding time my wife and I have had with kids and grandkids as we root on our Lions. To each and every player that made this year special, Thank You!!!
