"Ever stalwart, ever vigilant." -- Texas Ranger Laboeuf in True GritI will remain ever vigilant in the Blaze watch tower.
I don't disagree. I found Willie's take (on Basch & the Brain, latest ep) on Marcus interesting--talking about his unwillingness to hold center, and forcing guys to wrestle his match. It seemed like he held center pretty well when he wanted to--he's a very tactical wrestler, and finds ways to win. But he doesn't blow the doors off of guys like Kolat, Spencer, Chance, DT, etc did. No doubt a winner at a level I don't think we've seen before though. Hope he picks the good guys!Marcus is one of the best HS wrestler of all time. What he has been doing is legendary
I'd have to disagree with this the only people he's not blowing the doors off of are past ncaa champs and finalists and recruits like lilladahl and forest. He is crushing everything that is not at the highest level, and even some of them he is.-he's a very tactical wrestler, and finds ways to win. I can say that I didn't follow any wrestling back when Taylor or any other of your examples where recruits so I really don't know all their high school accomplishments.
Magical, even.Taylor was decent in high school.
Let me write the abbreviated version of your post:Marcus may well be the most impressive off season story I have seen in a while.
He gets better virtually every time I see him no matter the format. He has out proven himself to the surprise and shock of many each time he steps on the mat. I just sit back in awe of what he is able to do now, while dreaming of him at his maximum potential.
IMO, he has conducted his recruiting process as low key as any must get prodigy I have ever seen. He is all business, little fanfare, low key, and a man of solid integrity through it all.
Above all, he has an abundance of humility in the face of great talent. This is one of Cael's most admirable qualities as well. The two are meant for eachother on this journey.
While others talk and promise, Cael silently simply delivers above and beyond expectations, for more than a decade.
The kid screams blue and white as far as I am concerned, and I see no better place for him to maximize his almost limitless potential. What he did this weekend was just one more in a long line of amazing and incredible performances and just a glimpse of what lies ahead.
Now with so many age level, and now beyond age level achievements behind him, I am hoping it's time for his search to end. We are waiting with anticipation to celebrate with him.
Come on Marcus LET'S GO!!!! WE ARE!!!!
Let me write the abbreviated version of your post:
FULL COURT PRESS!!!!!!
DT made the junior world team as a high schooler.Magical, even.
I don't remember him competing at any college opens or senior-level freestyle tourneys while in HS. Not his fault, there was a number of years where that wasn't permitted. But it does make comparisons harder.
True, he was our 50 kg rep in 2007.DT made the junior world team as a high schooler.
True, he was our 50 kg rep in 2007.
No knock against him, but I wonder how unique this was. Meaning: 50 kg = 110 lb, well below the lightest college weight class. It wouldn't be surprising to see more HS kids making Team USA at this spot.
Tyler Graff was the 55 kg rep the same year, also still in HS.
Yes, making the Cadet team is likely harder at that weight.True, he was our 50 kg rep in 2007.

he is good but I would take Kolat against any high school kid at the same weight!Marcus is one of the best HS wrestler of all time. What he has been doing is legendary
Can’t wait to watch the whole state of Ohio explode when he commits to PSU
Here we go......."I know something that you don't know!" Why do people do this? Just say "so and so "might" be visiting," jeesh, this isn't like the National Security Agency!I’m hearing a top level recruit might be visiting this weekend… for some fun with the guys!
That's just them trying to explain away (to themselves) why Iowa was never really in it for him despite the bags-o-cash offered. In the recent Flo podcast, they really hinted that geography was a big factor for Blaze. Hope it’s just Flo being way off base, which is their thing most of the time.
Or their way of propping up Michigan as a contender. That's just them trying to explain away (to themselves) why Iowa was never really in it for him despite the bags-o-cash offered.
And it doesn’t really hurt us. 334 miles fromThat's just them trying to explain away (to themselves) why Iowa was never really in it for him despite the bags-o-cash offered.
1 hour to AA, 2 hours to Columbus, 5 hours to SC. I'd say that's a big enough difference if he's thinking about family making that trip 7 or 8 times a year to go see him wrestle. And it doesn’t really hurt us. 334 miles from
Perrysburg to Caelville - about 4:45 going a steady 70.
Far enough away to prevent parental pop ins but close enough for a pretty easy drive.
and only 7-8 visits at that. I'm sure the Blaze family has done a lot more than that for Marcus over the years. And it doesn’t really hurt us. 334 miles from

I just don't see where 40-45 hours of extra effort a year is meaningful in any way in the decision making process compared to the next 15 years of his life..1 hour to AA, 2 hours to Columbus, 5 hours to SC. It's not. But if he's close to 50/50 between schools it could easily be a deciding factor.I just don't see where 40-45 hours of extra effort a year is meaningful in any way in the decision making process compared to the next 15 years of his life..

And as you know living in Texas like I do, the concept of what a “long drive” entails shifts dramatically when you move here from one of the smaller states. A 2 hour drive for me when living in Pa or Northern VA seemed like an adventure - now it’s a standard weekend driveIn other words, a 1-2 hour drive to potentially AA or make the podium and a 5 hour drive to become a national champ?
I could never convince my wife that route was worth the five minute shorter drive. And as you know living in Texas like I do, the concept of what a “long drive” entails shifts dramatically when you move here from one of the smaller states. 4:45 is maybe one easy break during the drive - or none if you’re doing the pee in the empty Gatorade bottle route

I drive KC to SC with one biological stop and one refueling stop. And as you know living in Texas like I do, the concept of what a “long drive” entails shifts dramatically when you move here from one of the smaller states. That's impressive, but...I drive KC to SC with one biological stop and one refueling stop.
I worked at a casino while in college. Some of the hardcore gambling addicts used to wear diapers so they didn't have to leave their slot machine & possibly miss out on a big jackpot. That wasn't impressive. Lol. 😂That's impressive, but...
In 2007, NASA astronaut Lisa Novak drove 900 miles from Houston, Texas to Orlando, Florida wearing diapers to confront her ex-lover's new girlfriend, Colleen Shipman. Nowak allegedly used diapers to avoid stopping for bathroom breaks during her trip.
That's scary addiction right there. I'm glad that I can't imagine doing that.I worked at a casino while in college. Some of the hardcore gambling addicts used to wear diapers so they didn't have to leave their slot machine & possibly miss out on a big jackpot. That wasn't impressive. Lol. 😂
