Matt Rhule to stay at Baylor

Yup...,,
New York Jets: The Jets are hiring former Dolphins head coach Adam Gase per multiple reports. Jeff Darlington adds the deal is expected to be finalized late tonight or tomorrow. Details here.

What is the appeal to him?? He was decent at temple, but has sucked since and has had off field issues.

Everyone says the Big 12 sucks so Baylor should compete.

Are you serious with what he took over.

Matt went into a no discipline inmates running the prison cluster shit hole. The fact they made it to a bowl game this year was great.

We shall see. If they don’t show significant improvement next year 9 wins or so I think he will be on a warm seat in the state of Texas.

I dunno. My whacko Baylor alum neighbors love MR, recognizing his ability to rebuild programs previously directed by wholly incompetent head coaches. (Hmmmm.....that sounds familiar, but I digress).

Matt is obviously a Head Coach who demands discipline, knows the hands-on X & O intracies of football (unlike some other poser HC’s), and is uniquely qualified to escalate PSU Football to its deserved place amongst the “Elites”.

Art Briles may have been corrupt as a coach but there is no way with his won loss recordyou can say he is incompetent as a coach. Rhule is a solid coach but no way does he match Franklins win total the last three years if he was here.

And has he regained control?? His team was better this year, but still only .500 and still was only 4-5 in what we call a weak conference.

I could name a ton of other Coordinator and coaches that I’d hire over him.

you can't be serious...you realize when he took over that Baylor job they had 1 commit......1....and a program in shambles

It's amazing to me some forget what Baylor was like when Rhule took over... Guy flat out can recruit and coach. To get them to a bowl this year was a incredible feat, they are a very young team playing many young players. They are only going to get stronger over the next few years. I enjoy watching them play as it's tough hard nosed smash mouth football.

Regarding the Jets, hearing in several places sounds like the job was his but sounds like the Jets wanted to pick his staff for him since he had no NFL experience. When the Jets refused to let him pick his own staff he walked.

I think he had the Jets job, but they wanted him to bring in a different OC....

Shortly before word broke that Adam Gase will be the new head coach of the Jets, there were multiple reports that Matt Rhule would remain the head coach at Baylor.

The two developments were not unrelated. The Jets interviewed Rhule and the reports of his return were accompanied by a report that talks about him moving to the Jets fell apart because of disagreements about the coaching staff that Rhule would put in place.

Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News reports that Rhule’s choice for offensive coordinator was a particular sticking point. There’s no word on who Rhule had targeted for the job beyond that it is a current NFL assistant. Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports that former Buccaneers offensive coordinator Todd Monken was floated as an option by the Jets. Monken also interviewed for the head coaching job.

Given the importance of developing quarterback Sam Darnold to the Jets’ future, it’s easy to understand the weight they’d place on the choice of offensive coordinator. It’s also easy to understand why a head coach would balk at not having the assistants that he feels are necessary for success and it all adds up to that responsibility falling on Gase and his assistants.
