Too many of our shallow basketball followers fail to realize power 5 doesn't apply to hoops

Here's the way I look at it: Penn State basketball, for nearly as long as I can recall, typically drops at least one head-scratching out of conference loss to a nobody per season.

This year, I think the only OOC game you could even make that argument about is NC State, and I think don't think they're all that bad (78th in Kenpom). There's no loss to Maine, or Duquesne, or La Salle, or any of the other bizarre losses we've picked up over the years for one reason or another. You could say that we should have beaten Wisconsin - I agree - but we've largely taken care of business in out of conference play so far. And for a program that's really, really struggled in doing that for the past few decades, I don't have too much to complain about; in years past, when Penn State plays sloppy against a Binghamton they very well might lose. This year, it's a 15 point win.

When Big Ten play starts we can start complaining about the losses and those that wanted to pretend these poorly played games that resulted in wins against bad teams weren't reasons to complain will understand why the comments being made were made.

A bad Rider team followed by a winless Coppin State team...surely these are big wins to be had heading into conference play.

I agree with 78SR, Ohio State basketball sucks.

Who gives a shit? This is the best recruiting class Penn State has had in probably 20 years and you're whining about one player they won't sign.
No, not whining at all about recruiting. This should be a top 5 class which is fantastic! The best since 2006 when we finished 6th.

I said it looks like we'll get Parsons & Oweh but not Smith. Nothing negative about that but arsehole 8286 took a shot at me saying that PSU still had a good chance (in spite of 17 recent crystal balls to the contrary). I'd like to recruit better than OSU but we're doing better than any other team in the B1G. Can't complain about that.

That's completely fair. But every other Penn State basketball team for the past 25 years or so has had to play a conference schedule on top of the OOC schedule, too, and they've always seemed to drop weird games against mid majors. This year, that hasn't happened.

I agree that Maryland in the new year is a big test. Right now, we're ranked 37th in Kenpom, right behind Maryland and Michigan and good for 5th in the conference. We'll need to collect some wins in conference play, for sure, to make the postseason - but the advanced metrics seem to really like the way this team is playing right now.

Show me the post where I said PSU still had a good chance with Smith.

I'll bet you $1,000 or more that you can't find ONE. Let's go, chicken shit. Put your money where your mouth is. You have 24 hours to produce the post. Do we have a deal?

Binghamton is 8-4. Not sure this is a walkover game.

We’re 0-3 vs. RPI top 150 and 10-0 vs RPI bottom 150. The point is that our record looks like fools gold at this point. As an aside, we also have the worst SOS (#250 overall in MBB) in the B1G.
