Pitcher back down a day too soon.

Gonna need someone to chew up some innings tonight without getting the entire bullpen worn out

Might be a game we see some position player pitching

Yep. I'm not usually one to give up, but this game is already lost. Locke is my least favorite Pirate and I am confident he will give up 5 more runs before his exit in the 3rd inning. :(

I turned the game off. I cannot watch this guy pitch. I will not watch another game that he pitches all season, or ever. I don't care if it's the final game of the season and we're tied with the Cards for the Division. I don't care if it's the Wild Card Game (God help us if that's the case). I don't care if it's the final game of the NL Championship Series. I don't care if it's game 7 of the World Series. I will not ever watch this guy throw another pitch. I cannot stand the man.

Locke is the very definition of "head case". This game was lost before he threw his first pitch. When they invented the term "deer in the headlights" they were thinking of him, not some damned deer.

Edit: And he's even a worse hitter. A Little Leaguer could do a better job of attempting to bunt than him. If you ask me, he is a young Joel Myers.

The Bucs were hurt by 3 top level pitching prospects having Tommy John over the last 2 years. There is no way Locke wouldn't be in AAA and Morton may have been challenge too.
Don't have the Cardinals depth...yet.

Locke's biggest problem - IMHO - has always been above the shoulders. You can see that he clearly is not trying to throw strikes most of the time

To me, he is like to opposite of Worley, who may not have great stuff - but has brass balls and will attack any hitter.
Locke "nibbles" against weak hitters ( just like he did in the first inning today with the four pitch walk) and then gets himself into situations he isn't capable of getting out of. He clearly will NEVER learn that it's a hell of a lot easier to throw a first pitch strike than it is to try and get a 2-0 strike past a good hitter with 2 guys on base

The risk is that Locke will not only cost them this game, but will also destroy the bullpen for the rest of this HUGE series

If I were in Hurdle's shoes, and this game gets out of hand......if have Locke stay in there all nine innings......he can lob them up underhand if necessary. Maybe it would serve as a lesson that you damn well better get some balls and start kicking in....and that we're not gonna' screw up the whole staff to compensate for his nibbling pitchingpitching

He is unwatchable.....and, yes, the Buccos Fed up big time when they dropped Worley instead of Locke. :)

Totally agree-need to bring Worley back up in September and just put Locke in the bullpen. Agree that he is a total head case.
Worley pitched a 7 inning CG tonight (minor league double header)
7 innings. 1 run on 3 hits 9 strikeouts

He shoulda been pitching in Pittsburgh tonight instead of Indy. He is - obviously - on the same schedule as Locke and SHOULD be brought up to take Locke's next start

As far a tonight's game is concerned. The only good thing that can come of it is if they leave Locke in there for 7 innings or more to take the beating and save the pen for the weekend

Amen.

Bumgartner has thrown almost 90 pitches in 5 innings. Have to hope he only goes 6 and we can come back against their bullpen.

Or sign up this kid Wagner from the Red Land, PA Little League team. Anybody catching parts of this game; they marched through districts, states, regionals, etc. and are now crushing a team from Missouri. Best player appears to be kid named Wagner, who plays first and pitches; he's nearly 6' tall already and just crushed a HR that is the furthest I have ever seen a Little Leaguer hit one. Somewhere in the neighborhood of 320 feet to dead center.

They look like a good bet to go far and contend for the American championship at least. Be interesting to see if some of the kids play pro ball or succeed in other sports.
