Pretty interesting hints from Franklin. Sounds like Menet's improved enough they can picture him at center now, and McGovern could be fantastic at guard. So much competition at every position, and if the injury bug hits, they have some answers now.

"[McGovern]'s gotten big, he's gotten strong," Franklin said Thursday at an alumni chapter event in the Scranton area, according to the Times-Leader. "We're excited about what he's going to be able to do this year. ... We're going to see how it plays out in terms of getting our best five on the field, whether that means him at center or him at guard."

Wow thats interesting. I thought McGovern did ok at Center last year, I thought he was better at guard though.
Dare I hope, for the first time in about 10 years, we have a really good OLine?

If Simpson was going to be in the mix for starting Center, I don’t think they’d be wasting time with Menet practicing there. Hard to see him starting over Menet, Miranda, Thorpe

Simpson would need a back up. Thorpe needs more time before he gets put in. I havent seen Miranda enough to make a judgement. But I have seen Simpson and think he is ready. And that's why he is already ahead of Thorpe and Miranda.

Menet to center makes a ton of sense. First, he is smart and athletic. Moving McGovern to guard balances the line size wise. Menet being the smallest starter, being in the middle of the bigboys, equally balances both sides of the line. It adds depth. Menet learns how to play center for the future and if he gets hurt, McGovern can move back over to center. If I'm not wrong, they thought about moving Menet to center coming out of spring practice last year.

Obviously Coach Franklin and Limegrover know what they are doing. But I'm not sure that comment reflected a move of Menet to C. It seems logical that if the staff felt that was a possibility then Menet would have spent spring practice at C, not guard. Also, has Menet really gotten significantly stronger since spring ball ended a month ago?
I would not read anything at all into the "get the best 5 on the field comment". Probably every coach in the country is saying that right now.

You never miss a chance to mention Simpson, but he doesn't play meaningful snaps and won't, barring lots of injuries, as the team continues to mature. Are you related or what?

The horror ... the horror ...

no not related in any way shape or form. I just watch his production on the field, starting 2 years ago when he was on Kick off return. If you watch how he moves for a big guy, he moves very well. Last year he got some snaps, especially vs MD, and did a good job. He may not have the headlines the other guys have, but from what I see he has more production. There is a reason he was in Blue this spring. I just like getting the best 5 on the field. 62 does not look ready to help us win a B1G, NC. Go re-watch the spring game, and tell me after the first play what you think.

Wouldn't read too much into it: Historically, Franklin and Limegrover like to experiment during both the spring, and summer, with positions, alignments, personnel, etc. No biggie.

Yeah man, Simpson isn't going to start nor play any significant minutes barring catastrophic injuries. Unfortunately because you thought he moved well on kick off return doesn't qualify a walk-on to start on a B10 line.

He seems like a good enough kid and all but if Simpson is the starting center at any point in season, we're in big trouble.

not really, as mentioned there is a reason he was in blue in the spring and taking reps at OG. But we will see. Have you watched him at all on film?

Gonzo will start. He is our best OL.I read a scouting report on McGovern,by an NFL scout. He wrote that Connor needs to improve his strength and agility to play center. The scout said that Gonzo was our best OL,and Connor was our weakest.I posted this on BWI, and I was vilified.

McGovern is very talented, but he did not play well last season.I never read one negative post about McGovern on a PSU message board. The only criticism of Connor was by NFL scouts.McGovern has to dramatically improve to be a high draft choice.

I remember Maryland sending pressure every snap Simpson was in. I remember him being pushed deep in the back field. I remember McGovern coming back in fairly quick.

It's too early to get our hopes up, I think, but there is no reason to doubt that the OL will be some degree better... we just can't be sure how much better.

It's a "sluggo loop", a long-lasting circular movement that goes on and on.
Hey Royboy screw you. It's actually a coversation about football perhaps you would like to talk about traffic stops

MD game is up in YouTube perhaps you could post those clips. TIA

Definitely will see time ahead of Simpson: Bates, Fries, McGovern, Gonzalez, Menet, Wright.

Probably will see time ahead of Simpson: Miranda, Thorpe.

Lots of those dudes either play (McGovern, Miranda) have practiced at (Menet), or have the position flex (Bates, maybe Gonzo) to play center.

Literally all of them can play guard. Can we put this to bed? The odds are so long it's almost ridiculous.

Find a best five and put him in it. Who goes?

I disagree. I think Bates is our best and I don't think it's remotely close. NFL projections and college value are two different things, though.

You brought it up he didn't play well so I think you should

Then return the favor with the game film you reviewed where he played well.

(Note, 44:30 mark is his first snap. Zone RPO, Trace rolls left and hits Gesicki for a TD. )

I thought they moved Simpson to DT for depth- maybe just for spring practice.

here is the first time, he's with the first bunch, I think 66 was hurt. Him getting blown up? I think you are confusing it for a poorly executed screen pass. that's the third down play. watch 1st and 2nd down and show me the problem.

He first entered at the 44:30 mark. Unless we found separate videos. Score was 21-0.

you are correct, I missed it, now show me where he got blown up? It looks to me that he played pretty well.
Here's the rest where he plays with some of the 1s and 2's

pretty sure he was 64 blue in the spring game unless that is someone else. He came in for 74 on the third? series.

I give Sluggo credit for watching the video while the nonsensical interview with McSorely's dad is going on. The Dad was fine....but the interview in general was painful....I guess you have to do that when the score is 44-0.

The only interview that was worse when Saquon's entire family was interviewed in a blow out cannot remember who it was against but wow, bad tv.
