Second series, Simpson got thrown to the ground.
Third series, 1&10, pressure got by him collapsing the pocket. Same series, pass blocking, he's pushed deep into the backfield.
The screen pass you mentioned, Simpson basically gave away the play by literally side stepping and pushing the defender towards the back field with one arm. Entire defense probably read screen instantly.
Connor was back in for the first possession of the 2nd half.
He's an aggressive run blocker with the motor to get a second block on LBs. I like that about him upon this second viewing. I just don't see how you took this footage (much less the second string reps later on) and feel like he's genuinely in position for a hard look at Center.
this wasnt about Connor vs Simpson it was about Connor going to OG and then who plays C?
Thrown to the ground? The NT is so worried about throwing him to the ground, SB gains 3, and some better blocking from the TE and OT, maybe more. that wasnt a problem (BTW profootball focus would have given him a + on that play as it gained yardage)
the first ten pressure? if the LT doesnt give up more pressure, there isnt a problem, TM slides half step to the left and he has a clean pocket.
I did not see him get pushed deep into the pocket were it caused a concern. That said, on third 4 on a SB run he blocks his guy, the OG takes over, and hecomes off, as he should, and blocks the LB 5-6 yds down the field, if the rest had done that, 1st down.
I will give you the screen pass was not anyone on PSU O finest hour.
If you put the other 5 guys that played that game under the same microscope you do Simpson, I think your skin would crawl.
If they want to move Connor to OG I think Simpson is a good candidate for the C spot.
We can agree to disagree on this. I will give you this, at least you looked at the tape, most guys just say like how can you pick a walk on over a 5 star they read about on some recruiting blog.
