Anyone else worried about this game Saturday? The team has to have some air left out of their sails with the loss yesterday. The OL being a total mess also could be a huge issue as MSU does have some players on D..

I was worried about it before and still am. Away, revenge factor, good defense. And of course, our OL. Still should win, but I wouldn't bet on it.

the OL is now pretty messed up. watch the difference in the OFF after Bates goes out. not sure Wright is even healthy yet. that was the first game he was in on first team. we have had a hard time running the ball with Bates in and healthy. i see this game as a big problem - unless our OFF plan adapts to the new OL.

Not as many as many want to believe. They are a VERY YOUNG team for the most part.

The game should favor PSU since MSU lost a thriller to NwU -- NOT OSU !

They lost to northwestern, not worried about them. No pressure on our guys either as they aren't playing for anything other than pride at this point.

MSU will need to play close to an A game and PSU a B- or worse. MSU I think will keep it respectable vs PSU and OSU but our best players are primarily freshmen and sophomores. Lewerke is a third year guy but first year starter.

Lewerke is a gamer at QB. Reminds me of a younger McSorley. Both physically gifted guys that are dual threats. LJ Scott and our run game as a whole has been disappointing. We threw for 450 on NW but two red zone turnovers and two missed field goals left critical points off the board and we couldn’t overcome.

I expect PSU to beat MSU something like 34-20.

I agree. PSU will need to get focused quickly and put Ohio St behind them. Hopefully they come out on fire and have learned the lesson of putting a team away and keeping the pressure on until the final whistle.

The talent gap between MSU and us is WAY wider than it is between us and tosu. This game will be over before half...45-10.

  • Michigan, @ OSU, @ MSU is a tough stretch
  • OSU 4th quarter collapse had to be emotionally draining
  • All B1G rad games are tough
  • Bates and Buchholz could be out.
  • Campbell and Wright might not be 100%
I don't take anything for granted.

not in the least, despite my very sour disposition right now

The talent gap really isn’t that wide..there’s a gap but it’s not monstrous. No doubt MSU will need to get a few turnovers. I’d give MSU a 25% chance to win. Will PSU be hungover??

I think because of our skill players, some here tend to over value the overall talent. Agree, the gap between PSU and MSU is hardly monstrous.

MSU losing to NW in triple overtime means Sparty could have a hangover next Sat as easily as PSU could have a hangover.

The coaches will do their part to get the team back in the right mindset.

But, the real impact will come from the senior and other leadership.... Marcus, Trace, Saquon, Jason and others will need to set the tone in practice, in Lasch, and on Saturday.

We need them all to step up this week. I believe they will.

PSU will not lose another game this season. They will be favored (obviously) vs. MSU, and win. They will finish with one loss and go to a very good bowl game.

Well it's after 3pm so the team is going over film of last nights game already. It won't be pretty but something they have to see. I'm sure James will point out the mistakes they made and have them ready to play again Saturday against MSU!

Coach Franklin will need to galvanize the team into believing that a victory against MSU gets Penn State back on track. No one knows how the other top 10 teams will finish the season.

BTW. You guys played away against the number 6 team in the country and came 1 point short. Perhaps disappointing but a step forward towards a National Championship. Good luck!!

PSU is vulnerable in this game due to the key injuries. Bates going down is huge for OFF, and Buch loss at DE clearly changes the rush DEF and the pressure on QB. i think without those injuries we would have won last night.

the OFF had very few plays over 5 yds after Bates went out. many of the defenses we already played would have shut us down without Bates at LT. we do not have the quality depth in the current players to make up for this loss.

we could easily lose one game rest of way. i think the Maryland game will actually be very tight.

Highly dependent on Bucholz and Bates. Need them back soon! Seriously we don’t have the depth on the lines to run with these physical teams without these two stellar athletes.

If Bates can't play, what would be the OL? Same lineup that finished against OSU or shuffles as follows?
LT - Fries
LG - Gonzalez
Center - McGovern
RG - try Menet here?
RT - Mahon (move back to where he excelled last year before injury)

I'm puzzled as to why Menet hasn't seen PT. Seemed there was lots of positive talk in Spring and early in Fall camp, the silence. Perhaps injured?

Never underestimate MSU. They have knocked off a lot of teams over the years that supposedly had the better talent.

Based on your prediction history I really like PSUs chances.

I"m puzzled about Menet myself, Fries for Bates at LT was noticeable.

For the moment, MSU still controls their B1G destiny. Dantonio will also play the "remember these guys ran it up on us late last year, now is our time for revenge" card.

They'll be ready.

Will Sparty be hungover? Won't matter...PSU rolls MSU.

What do we know about Michigan State? Strength and Weakness?

Strengths are stopping the run and we are solid in pass coverage. Our true frosh Scott is rated a top 3 cover corner by PFF in the B1G. Our weakness on D is pass rush and linebackers in pass coverage. Offensively we are good at pass pro and have a deep and talented WR corps. Running game has left a lot to be desired. We start a true frosh at right guard and rs frosh at right tackle.

Lewerke as a QB can run like McSorley and can get the ball downfield. He’s young and can make the great play folllowed by a boneheaded one.

He threw for 450 in our loss last week. We couldn’t turn yards into points. MSUs offense will have to run the ball and we will have to figure out a way to get after McSorley. If we can do those things we stand a chance.
