PSU's 2017 schedule contains a murderer's row right in the center. @NW, UM, @tOSU, @MSU.
You're obviously upset as you didn't read the entire post I said "down the stretch" as in later in the year. Also remind me did you play both OSU and Iowa on the road? My question would be do you honestly think PSU would've won had the teams met later in the year? Still haven't talked smack just responding to absurdity. Why so mad?
Good post and agree on the Harbaugh thing he kind of brings it on himself, though I'll say he's never had a bad thing to say about PSU so I guess I don't get the anger directed by some here (not you)
Well, it's not entirely accurate to say he's never had a bad thing to say about PSU but he hasn't been neutral or positive either, and he's the latest in a long line of UM frustrations. I don't remember him being outright offensive, but hover the course of their respective lifetimes, there are 3, now possibly 4, preeminent B1G teams. Between them, there are several zero-sum realities. We're ready for the team getting the better of the situations to be our team. Let's take a short walk...
At Least in recruiting and overall program strength, the rest don't really compete for recruits with PSU, tOSU and UM. UM and tOSU have a stronger presence in the league and care more about each other than the rest. And in the rivals/scout recruiting era, they've outperformed all the rest-although CJF is really coming on strong and challenging that status quo.
CUM was disruptive, as was Harbaugh. (Personally, I'm glad both are coaching in the B1G and I wanted Harbaugh to UM years before he arrived there.) CJF looks like he's bringing PSU back to where we want to be. Anything short of on par with UM and tOSU in terms of on-field success will be a disappointment. It's a loft goal.
Why so mad? It's the antics and the continued success at plucking the occasional PSU commit--the sleepover with flamboyant kicker commit was a real "kicker." That was yet another insult. And he certainly wasn't encouraging the kid with all the greatness of PSU. And that's with a landscape of UM-related frustrations, such as with chad henne and the loads of others over the years. Then there's Carr's seeming decade of owning us, especially Henne to Manningham with :02 (I know you know what I'm talking about) and on and on. And earlier in that very game, the crowned jewel of our recruiting (just about EVER) was taken out with a horrible injury that may have impacted his success career-wide.
CJF is on track to becoming one of the great ones, but started out with some arms and feet tied behind his back. In the meantime, Harbaugh and CUM cleaned up on the recruiting front and at least some of that was directly at PSU's expense (including in some cases recruiting former Penn Staters and coaches). Harbaugh is having sleepovers and camping and getting all sorts of hype, we've have the shame and embarrassment of Sandusky and all the pain and BS that came with it.
2016 was a break back-in year. 49-10 kept us out of it. It was just another bad break. The early game with new OC, the depth on D, injuries, ejection, points after points.
CJF has outperformed Harbaugh so far, yet Harbaugh has the wins and recruits. CJF is primed to do great things in 2017 and we've got a chip on our collective shoulder.
If you ask me, the hate is the biggest compliment in sports. Take it and stop asking why. You know why and we know it.
