Midlands Tournament Thread

also a little color and not sure if the HWC is advancing the cash or what...... a few days before PD2 went off the rails pounding on the HR faithful he said PD3 couldnt afford to go to midlands. not sure if that was real or just a plea for help and he got the cash based on these tweets.

Wonder if Vodka can get us a ruling on whether spotting PDIII the cash for midlands is within the rules.

So one day the HWC is soliciting funds for a polar bear plunge, the next Pat Downey has enough money to compete at Midlands. Hmmm.

PD2 went off the rails? His posts were a plea for help?

Could fill a 3 inch binder with examples of that.

I could have sworn a few proposed a gofundme and were already pledging a 100 here and a 100 there. Someone pointed out the "no-no" of the idea, but our very own vodka swilling self-appointed compliance officer was I believe rather silent on the subject.

The problem with Midlands hookers is they steal your stuff. The problem with Pitt athletes is their education leaves them wanting.
The other problem with Pitt athletes is they don't have a polar bear slush fund to bail them out after being robbed by Midlands hookers.

PD3 tweeted he is still going 184 for the regular season, just 197 for Midlands so he can enjoy the holiday.

On HR someone said he would have to weigh in at 189.5 or less at Midlands. No clue if that poster was accurate or not.

If he’s weighing 190+ doesn’t that impact when he can even wrestle at 184?
I think that it has to be an official weigh-in that determines the rate of weight loss going forward. I don't think his 190 weight was official. At least that's how I understand it.

True, but if he weighs 190, at 1.5% per week descent, he could be at 184 sooner than he could get past Admissions.

In trying to understand descent plans: if, for example, a 149# wrestler wanted to go 141 at Nationals, he could lose 1.5% per week.

Week 1: 149 x .985 = 146.765
Week 2: 146.765 x .985 = 144.564
Week 3: 144.564 x .985 = 142.396
Week 4: 142.396 x .985 = 140.260

So, you’d need 4 weeks to make that drop. You would then have to work backwards from the conference tournament to know when you need to start the descent.

Am I understanding correctly?

PDII and III - I will give them credit for this. Seriously HOF trollers.

Masters of grand pronouncements and promises. Never quite deliver but then move the target and shift blame elsewhere. Rinse and repeat and rinse and repeat and...

If you think about it it is kind of brilliant in a strange JHU special program for children way. Somewhat spyker like in that regard.

Also great that they have bbwretler hook line and sinker over there defending therm. Couldnt happen to a sharper guy.

bb is struggling to spin the story. Pretty amusing. Oh to read his posts in an alternate universe where Cael gave Downey a 5th chance

I question whether bbwrestler is really the “insider” he has them all believing that he is. He’s made quite a few statements that didn’t seem quite right to me. One glaring one was when he said Spencer prefers folk over freestyle....said it came straight from Spencer’s mouth but I know for a fact Spencer has said in several interviews he’d much rather wrestle Freestyle. Now I know why bbwrestler said it. He was defending his position when someone called him out for saying Spencer had the best top game he’d ever seen...as if Spencer’s preference for folk over free would somehow bolster his position.

He’s a “FOG” - a Friend of Gable.

Guy didn’t even know who Spencer Lee was 3 years ago. Now he’s tagging along behind him

I didn't check your math, but your understanding is essentially correct. However, I'm not sure PDIII is subject to this yet. He is not currently on the roster of any team so hasn't even certified at a weight yet so I don't have a clue how the rules apply (or don't apply yet) to him.

You have it right, though that wrestler would be wise to allow an extra week. Or much earlier if possible.

Note a few caveats:
1. These calculations are minimum weights. If this wrestler weighs in at 146.75 at Week 1, then he has to sit out that match. (Of course this is highly unlikely, because you can check weight unofficially and then drink some water.)

2. Calculations are based on the last official weigh-in. After the Week 1 weigh-in, subsequent weeks are re-calculated. If he comes in too high, then he might need an extra week to make 141 -- or his coach could elect to have him not weigh in that week.

3. Matches at other weights do not count toward conference or NCAA seeding, and I believe also do not count toward conference NCAA qualifier spots. So if he waits too long to drop, then he'll have a hard time qualifying for nationals -- and if he makes it, he'll be unseeded and risk drawing an elite wrestler in round 1.

For PD3, his descent plan would be based on his first official weigh in, ie Midlands. Being unattached shouldn't matter. He'd still have to certify, but realistically that will only matter if he somehow certifies above 184, which seems unlikely.

Thanks, El-Jefe. Merry Christmas. I always enjoy your posts and insights.

Jefe most likely u are correct.
I don't understand how his weigh in at Midlands could
be a official weigh in as he is not really enrolled at Iowa yet so would think his first weigh in when is on the roster would be the
official one.

You guys realize there are other wrestlers and teams going to Midlands besides Iowa and Pat Downey right?
