Midlands Tournament Thread

In trying to understand descent plans: if, for example, a 149# wrestler wanted to go 141 at Nationals, he could lose 1.5% per week.

Week 1: 149 x .985 = 146.765
Week 2: 146.765 x .985 = 144.564
Week 3: 144.564 x .985 = 142.396
Week 4: 142.396 x .985 = 140.260

So, you’d need 4 weeks to make that drop. You would then have to work backwards from the conference tournament to know when you need to start the descent.

Am I understanding correctly?
You're close, but not quite there. The 1.5% per week is actually based off your alpha weight (your weight when you certified). So, to use a nice, easy, round number, if you weighed 200 pounds when you certified, you can lose three pounds per week throughout the season, down to the 5% body fat weight, and that number is NOT recalculated from weigh-in to weigh-in.

Love fest, Flo says Hawks will not win it now that kind of love
I don't need.;)
yesterday there were 8 or 9 articles involving the hawks on their site. Even the Imar article included marinelli in it.

They might not have picked the hawks to win, but that is more about reality than it is a lack of love.

We need more “Mark Hall wanted to wrestle @ Midlands but they’re full” jokes.
Does the Midlands have a marketing director, marketing team or something beyond the tournament slogan, "Midlands: Hookers, Pitt and Police."

Just wondering

Thanks, SHP. So, in using your example, if your pre-season certified weigh-in is 200 pounds, you can only lose 3 pounds per week, and that amount stays the same throughout the season. SO, if you weigh in at 197 for Midlands, you would have to wait over 4 weeks to wrestle at 184. And, switching examples, if you weighed in at 133 for a dual and your allowed/wk weight loss was say 1.5 pounds, you would have to wait 5+ weeks to wrestle at 125. But, in all of this, only official weigh-ins count. Is that correct?

Midlands listed these guys as "Top Contenders" for 157

Mike Kemerer
Josh Shields
Mike D'Angelo
Larry Early
Colin Heffernan
Kyle Langenderfer
Luke Zilverberg
Andrew Crone
Zachary Moore
Justin Staudenmayer

Add Berge, Parriott, and a few others. Do we think Brady places? Would love for him to get a re-match with D'Angelo

I don't know if you remember my posts about seeing him at the Princeton Open. Unless he has really packed on some muscle it was my impression that he would be undersized dealing with the top guys. Very talented but looked like he would need a year in college to deal with the strength of the top 57s. My expectations would be to see some good results for him, but also to expect a loss or two to an older guy who may not be as talented as you would think need be to beat a wrestler as talented as he is. I don't think he places, but I've been wrong before.

If he was a starter and going all-in and competing at 149, I'd feel better about him being able to hit the podium.

Huh? I don't think PDIII can make 157 or 149.

However, if you weigh in at 190 and wrestle 197, you can get to 184 in 2 weeks. Assuming body fat allows it.

Based on a recent post, it sounds like PDIII is a lot closer to 200lbs walking around then 190lbs. This is setting up to be a train wreck. The guy simply isn't wired to make a sustained cut like this and will either bust weight or under perform if he tries to go 184. When he eventually moves up, that will put Wilke on the shelf for a while while he cuts down under the rules(if he even certified at 184). I can see this coming from a mile away, how can their coaches not?

Not being part of the team yet and not had his first official practice yet PD3 weigh in at midlands should be pointless. He will have to cert at Iowa before his 1st official practice.

because bringing in a mercenary is currently an evolving chapter in the 3" binder. Until its written they dont know what to do maybe?

this whole PDIII to iowa thing is the most unfun but funny thing that I have seen in a long awhile.

clearly as the subtitles said it best......the best thing about PDIII to iowa is the message boards lost the andrew long debate

otherwise this is closer to a mobile meth cooker than a grand experiment

Sorry to my fans? Who the hell is a fan of this guy at this point? That is unless you are a fan of d*** pics and general Twitter D-baggery.

My guess would be Brands, how in heck can any one
expect him to be in shape when he has not been working
out and doing his study work to complete 21 credits. He
will get enough bashing when he does go as he is now and
still has not step on the mat..Makes a lot conversation is all.

I ask on your board if he was a member of the Hawk wrestling club and was told yes and he has been working out regularly and routinely beating on Sammy.

Just my guess, but many on here will have great fun with the PDIII drama as it plays itself out, and even more in the wrestling community will find the entire drama much more of a comedy.

The shame is this was a do over with great feel good potential. Still time for it to play out differently, but it just has that funny shyt gonna happen feel to it.
