Military Bowl canceled b/c of transfers and nonparticipating

COVID too. But BC mentioned these other reasons. NCAA may be losing its grip on the bowl system IMHO

LOL. NCAA has never had "its grip" on the bowl system, it has little to no say about the bowls system. Basketball it totally different and the NCAA makes a shitload of money off that tournament.

Epic fail on part of NCAA with lack of oversight or clearer guidelines reference the portal. Besieged by all kinds of unintended consequences.
The NCAA has absolutely lost its teeth. Hell, under Emmett’s leadership they’ve pretty much lost the will to enforce any rules. They are truly a dumpster fire now.

Maybe the conferences should adopt a rule that the transfer portal is only open a few months of the year (say February through June)?

The Paternos and Penn State burned them down.

Between free agency and the cfp, the bowls have in fact been killed.
Too many bowls killed the bowls. When you can be incredibly average and make a bowl….who wants to watch? When a NYD bowl game is followed by bowls on the 2nd, 3rd and 4th….how is NYD special anymore?
The bowls created their own lack of apex and interest.

True. There are way too many bowls. Teams with 6 and 7 wins should not be at bowl games IMO.

Was gonna start a thread on this. Kids don’t want to play in some crappy bowl in a mediocre city in poor weather. Most would rather have some time off and spend holidays with friend and family. Now with kids with NFL aspirations opting out, and other kids transferring out schools are having problems fielding competitive teams. And Covid makes it worse.

Hopefully about a dozen bowls will go away.

My problem is if a coach leaves there is buyout that has to be paid by the coach or the new school so the original school is compensated to a degree. With the transfer portal there are no common sense restrictions and someone can basically break there commitment without any kind penalty or limitation. Look I realize the players have been getting the short end of the stick in major college sports for years but what we have now is more like chaos and the Wild Wild West. It just seems like it was poorly thought through and implemented.

I think when you/we say “the bowls” we need to look no farther than than espn. They’ve created the cluster of mediocre bowls. I believe I read @ 35 of the 44 games are on one of their (Disney?) affiliates.
MAC plays regular season on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Fridays, then they will give them a bowl game.

OL

I don’t mind all the bowls. Most of them suck and I don’t watch them but the chance to see your team play out of conference against someone they normally wouldn’t is something I like. The schools are making a bit of money and the players at least seemed to enjoy it.
