Military Bowl

Just FYI, Pitt sold out three allotments for the military bowl, and had at least 40 % of the attendance. Many things to criticize about the game, but Pitt fan support is not one of them.

Good luck in your bowl game. Don't mind those of my ilk that come over here to harass you. Looking forward to our game next year.

Listed Military Bowl Seating Capacity: 34,000

40% would be 13,600 fans.

So basically all Pitt alumni and student football season ticket holders attended?

Nice!

If you say so, sure didn't look that way on the TV. There is a poster on this board, B Brown, who attended the bowl and I think he would strongly disagree with your assessment of the attendance.

If the 40% claim is accurate, I would call that a good showing for Pitt. Even 30%/10,200 fans would be quite respectable for Pitt. Come to think of it, even 20%/6,800 fans would be a jolly good showing for Pitt!

Hell, if 1000 Pitt fans show up, that is a good thing.

That said, I work and live in Pittsburgh, and I don't know a single Pitt guy who went. And I know a lot of guys who have Pitt season tickets, although they hardly ever use them.

Oh, I was there, too. Our "side" was completely sold out. About 10-15,000. Someone "strongly disagreeing" with that would be wrong. I rewatched the game and saw empty seats in the end zone. In the stands, the upper corners of the Navy side were empty. Not much else was. Pitt had the "Gold" side of the stadium, goal-line to goal-line, two levels, and it was full. The Navy "Blue" sideline, goal -line to goal -ine was sold too (to Navy fans) except for the aforementioned upper corners. it was a pretty full, and even though a small stadium, it was a nice atmosphere both ways.

Attendance was 36,000. lol, yeah, I guess. It was a good showing for us.

Whatever. The question is, will the Pitt reputation be any different next year? How many Pitt fans would come to Florida, say, let alone Arizona? Probably no more than 25.

Next year, Pitt will still be on the outside looking in, as usual. No real bowl wants Pitt. None. Zilch.

It was a very good showing for Pitt. I was glad to see it. Like I said, over 10,000. almost 9000 through the school's three allotments, which like I said, sold out.

I'll give you an honest reply on this. If we are playing a ranked opponent, I think we travel well. I think this is true throughout college football bowl games these days - and why there are so many empty seats in these bowls running up to NY6.

Pitt has never traveled well.

Look, it's easy logic. Most Pitt games in Pittsburgh draw maybe 35,000 max, no matter what phony number gets announced. Given that, it is extremely unlikely that more than 15,000, max, are traveling anywhere outside of town. Pitt has no fan base outside of Pittsburgh, as their alumni base is small. If you can't get people to travel to the North Side, you can't get them to travel to a bowl game that requires an airplane trip. It has never happened, and it never will.

Uhh the 2 posts asking me to come back to the BWI board where from PSU fans! Not too quick on the uptake are you? BTW...NCAA recognizes the 9NC so the joke is on you!

Before you insult someone's intelligence, you should probably make sure your post doesn't have any basic spelling/grammar errors.

I see four here: NCAA College Football Championship History

1910 (recognized along with with Harvard), 1916,1937,1976

Funny thing - I don't see Yale fans puffing up their chests and shouting out loud about their 16 championships.

I had seen that before. Unlike that idiot 9PretendNationalChampionshipsThatReallyDontExistButWePretendTheyDo, I actually make sure I can back up what I post. He really is the worst troll ever. Now he'll crawl back into his pathetic little hole known as the panther liar free board, and continue to engage in the mutual masturbation that passes for intellectual discourse we'll see him in another 3 months when he embarasses himself again. I really hope he doesn't have a degree because it really cheapens it for people with college degrees everywhere, not just at Pitt.

I made no prediction of a PITT win in my thread! I expected a close game and was dissatisfied with our LB play! Thanks for adding to the TV ratings!
For an afternoon, you were the source of entertainment on and for this board. You have a future....doing anything other than "curbside refuse service" would be a major accomplishment.

There were as many or more Pitt fans than Vatech fans last year --- and vatech is closer to Annapolis. Attendance at this bowl was really a non-issue and Pitt fans were supportive of their team. The mostly empty Heinz field games are another question --- but I wouldn't want to attend games off-campus at a pro stadium either.

Not according to Map Quest. Pittsburgh to Annapolis is 267 miles (mid-point of city to mid-point of city) - that's about a 4.5 hour drive possibly slightly less if you're willing to push your speed... Blacksburg to Annapolis is 307 miles center-to-center or about a half-hour to 45 mins further depending on how fast you drive.

Franklin_Restores, that Pittsburgh, PA is closer to Annapolis, MD by 30 miles is confirmed by every site I searched. For example, two others that I checked were travelmath.com and distancesonline.com.

I was at the game and there was a pretty good representation of Pitt fans there. Normally I would never go to a Pitt game since they're one of my most hated teams, but my company had freebies so my wife and I went and invited a couple of our neighbors (and of course we rooted for Navy!). In fact we were surprised by how many Pitt fans were at the game. Was every seat on the Pitt side filled? Of course not just like not all the seats were filled on the Navy side (considering it was essentially a home game for Navy I was surprised by this as well). But there were a lot of Pitt fans at the game. I don't think a 35-40% Pitt fan ratio is unrealistic based on what I saw at the game and in the parking lots.

You're being hopeful. It's been so long since Pitt has been truly good, it's hard to say. Pitt's biggest issue is that they just don't have as many alumni as the bigger schools, and no tradition of traveling together.

An important factor is how you have to drive in virginia. That will also slow you down.
