Moorhead taking Huff with him now

So if he can run JoMo offense with him at Messy St why cant he run it at PSU?

Total speculation, but reading between these lines is Huff wanted more and JF is going outside the current staff for hire so Huff said.....see ya.

A loss for sure.
That may hurt with a few recruits.

We’ll see.

well....this is what CJF did to Vandy. So Huff will go from position coach to OC, get triple the money and set himself up for a HC position down the road. Can't blame him.

Best of Luck Coach Huff!

CJF was head coach though, JoMo was not. Still expected some of this to happen but Huff has been with JF for a long time so a little surprising.

JoMo took less money to make this happen so his staff would get paid, he's got a plan and I will now be shocked if this is the last coach to leave.

Slade isn't going anywhere. This is why Franklin has the recruiting philosophy of having the entire staff involved with every recruit. Including his personal involvement.

Running back coaches are the easiest to replace, and with the addition of a full time special teams coach (which JF indicated is the way he'd likely go) with the 10th coach added shortly it means Huff wouldn't be needed to be the special teams coach anymore either.

I never worry about Franklin replacing coaches. Most times, you'll see an upgrade.

This is better than losing either Gattis or Rahne. We will now be hiring 3 coaches; OC, RB/ST, and our new 10th staff member.

so who else goes from PSU?? Thoughts?

Huff has been with Franklin only since they both came to PSU. Plus a 1 year stint at Vanderbilt. You may consider that a long time. I don't.
Must have forgotten at Maryland too. Thats a long time and great relationship to me.

I'd look to any coaches who have not been on recruiting trips these last few days as candidates to leave. Would exclude Rahne and Spencer. Not saying any more are leaving, just something to consider. Also, any with a chance to get a promotion both in title and pay (all would get pay raises it seems)

Just turned in my resignation for my current job (my first out of college), coming up on 5 years. For someone like me, 5 years is a lifetime. This is a big loss.

I think JF wants to tweak offense a bit. I know its scary and been successful but he has eluded to "finesse" team over and over after the losses. I think he wants to at least be able to have some different sets in short yardage and snaps from under center. We will see.

Because he isn’t running it.

We all get that Moorhead is but fact Moorhead thinks enough of him to be his Co-OC is telling he thinks he could if he were to die tomorrow. So who on PSU staff could? Or does JF want to turn in another direction and tweak that offense a bit (i think he does)

This guy also maintains Napier is next OC, already done, perhaps why Huff left. We'll see.

1,000% correct. Kids commit #1 because of the HC, then down the line. CJF is one of the best in the business and this will reveal itself with his choices and continued success at PSU.

I know this has been gone over and over again but we will not see a QB taking snaps under center as long as we are running a spread offense or the RPO. It just isn't happening. A pro style offense is completely different than what PSU runs and it takes a completely different set of skills that you would need to practice day in and day out to be able to use in a game. They simply do not have enough practice time to even consider this. The center/QB exchange is just one of the skills needed and it's a big deal. Then you have all of the footwork that goes with just handing the ball off. Even if PSU decided to go under center JUST for run plays, what a great way to tell the defense we're running the ball. Both safeties will come down to the box.

And that's exactly what would happen. There is no scenario where PSU is throwing the ball with the QB going under center. A three, five, and seven step drop is something a QB would have to be practicing every single day, all practice long to be able to perform in a game and if they are going to spend the time for a QB to learn that they just move to a pro style offense. This is specifically why a pro style QB is so valued by NFL scouts. They already know how to do this. There is no scenario where PSU can run two completely different types of offenses. They get 20 hours of practice a week.

I honestly wish this would just be understood. You either run a spread or RPO offense or a pro style offense. I agree with Franklin that we need to be more physical and less finesse at times but that doesn't translate into any of our QBs going under center.

And if a QB goes under center even one time next season I'll show up to eat crow here.

Hmmm does JF tap into the Fordham pipeline for another HC to OC jump...
James Perry from Bryant was mentioned in another thread on the Den. The more I read about this guy the more I likey.

Didn't another guy we know graduate from Brown as well???

Only good football programs lose coaches, and that's because good football programs have really good players. CJF doesn't get enough credit for changing things in that regard in a short period of time. it's quite amazing how a stud rb, or a bevy of talented wr's, or a 6-6 TE makes a coach look really smart. keep bringing in really good players and the coaching will take care of itself.

I don't know what we are going to look like next year, but to say that it is impossible to incorporate going under center while being a spread team is not very accurate.

Of course, this years team did so much better on short yardage that it wasn't a glaring issue. Other than a certain 4th and 3, we were very good on short yardage. It was those pesky 1st and 10s where we run slow developing, defense expecting runs that was most negative.
