I haven't been able to follow this thread from the beginning. It appears to have something to do with a dispute between Julia Salata and Flo. But, when I try to look at Salata's tweets, all I find is a huge pile of retweets. I gather there is some problem with flo not booking a women's match for their upcoming event. But then there is a suggestion of a sexual abuse issue buried in there somewhere. Completely puzzling to me as to what anyone is talking about.

Ok it’s not just me that can’t follow twitter.

I can’t remember who really started voicing about there being no women’s march. But eventually, some of them chimed in saying they were offered one and turned it down. It eventually came out that that amount appears to have been around $1k (although seems most or maybe even all of those offers were actually from Wrestle Like a Girl and not Flo).

However, this is likely the tweet that caused Nomad’s disappearance:



More recently, there appears to be a bit of uproar over Flo making an Instagram post about figs (the food).

Nomad shouldn't be in jail. He was probably rightfully fired, but I think because of the supposed Downey allegations (still unconfirmed), people are confusing that with the allegations against (allegedly) Nomad.

According to the tweet by Salata, a "Flo employee" was asking the wrestlers to POST pics, not send them to him, and I also assume they were all over 18 which allegedly is not the case with Downey. I assume because he thought that might help with their marketability. Obviously wrong nowadays, but probably would've been standard operating procedure 10 years ago or so (and I wouldn't be surprised if it is happening in places like the UFC, where the better looking women seem to get the most publicity).

Edit: And allegedly paying people to talk to him is weird, but I don't see anything illegal about that (as long as he's not getting reimbursed from Flo or something).

I grew up and competed in these areas in PA and there is no reasonable denying it if you look at the demographics, dialogue, and discussion among wrestlers, even outside the US.

And while many of us have left the closed and often close-minded small towns and rural communities and travelled or lived in more urban regions and other parts of the world, it is patently obvious that so many in the wrestling community have not or will not, and they in turn vilify or fear or attempt to "joke" about (i.e., routinely put down) more urban, cosmopolitan, free-thinking and free-acting cultures and people.

1. Downey is exactly who we thought he was.
2. Nomad may be suspended......may be fired.....but definitely strange.
3. "Open-Minded" must have numerous definitions....some of them polar opposites.

A good rule of thumb...

When you walk out your front door and pee off the porch, (1) if your neighbors can't see you, it's "rural"; (2) if your neighbors see you and call the police, it's "suburban"; (3) if your neighbors see you but don't care, it's "urban"

I'm still unclear on what wrongs Nomad is alleged to have committed, because there's only an assertion by Salata that someone at Flo suggested to her more bathing suit photos (which if accurate is objectively demeaning to the women wrestlers, though I can imagine hypothetical contexts of that conversation that might somewhat mitigate), and almost immediately thereafter Nomad is effectively de-personed at Flo, as if he never existed. A lot of people are connecting some easy dots, but it would be nice to hear from Flo on what's happened, what steps they're taking, and so on. But of course if Flo were to do that, they'd not be the morally rudderless frat house that is Flo. And if they were to address why Nomad isn't around they might feel compelled to address Salata's larger point, that being Flo's ignoring the business case for women's wrestling. My guess is that Flo is hoping this blows over and they can bring back Nomad quietly when he'd be less of a lightning rod for this issue. If that's the case, I think they're underestimating the women wrestlers, who have a head of steam and some compelling arguments.
