More Flo news

I know it's bad "PR" for them to admit whatever happened, happened. But wrestling is a small community and them not getting in front of it will just make this go on for a long time.

I'm still unclear on what wrongs Nomad is alleged to have committed, because there's only an assertion by Salata that someone at Flo suggested to her more bathing suit photos (which if accurate is objectively demeaning to the women wrestlers, though I can imagine hypothetical contexts of that conversation that might somewhat mitigate), and almost immediately thereafter Nomad is effectively de-personed at Flo, as if he never existed. A lot of people are connecting some easy dots, but it would be nice to hear from Flo on what's happened, what steps they're taking, and so on. But of course if Flo were to do that, they'd not be the morally rudderless frat house that is Flo. And if they were to address why Nomad isn't around they might feel compelled to address Salata's larger point, that being Flo's ignoring the business case for women's wrestling. My guess is that Flo is hoping this blows over and they can bring back Nomad quietly when he'd be less of a lightning rod for this issue. If that's the case, I think they're underestimating the women wrestlers, who have a head of steam and some compelling arguments.
My guess is:

1. They interviewed Nomad and he admitted to his inappropriate communication with the wrestlers in question and they terminated him.
2. FLO knew what he was doing and either actively or tacitly endorsed that communication and they gave him a severance package to be the fall guy and keep his mouth shut as long as FLO does the same.

Either way, they will call the matter a personnel issue that will not be discussed. My guess is that #2 is closer to the truth and they want to avoid brooming everyone that knew about it.

I'm not saying this is OK. I'm not excusing anything Nomad allegedly has done. I'm in no place to say whether he did or didn't do anything.

Is it possible FLO/Nomad encouraged the women's athletes to post pictures or tiktoks or whatever to show more of their body to gain followers/clicks/media presence? I'm not saying this is OK, acceptable, or anything of that nature when talking about female athletes, but I look at the UFC and WWE and the strategy has seemed to work. The only reason my friends know who Paige Van Zant is is because of instagram (we're not huge into MMA by any stretch of the imagination, but we dabble). I personally don't use IG worth a darn, but I know attractive women do numbers on it.

Again, I'm not trying to belittle or degrade these women's athletes. I'm just wondering if this was the angle, and they took offense (which would be completely understandable).

Women's wrestling is tight on its own merits. I can't believe MN hasn't sanctioned Girls' High School wrestling, yet. It's borderline-sickening, honestly.

Pretty sure most people agree this is probably exactly why the alleged request was made.

looks like the original tweet was deleted. anyone got a screenshot? based on context, i've got a guess of what was involved but i hope i'm wrong.

i found it and it's exactly what i thought. each matchup is reverse alphabetical order of last name, so it's possible it's an honest mistake. but at the same time if that's what it really was, why not admit it and make a new graphic?

Salata has commented on Nomad’s demise:
“I am sorry. What happened to Nomad was business. I have much respect for Nomad. But your Cosmo Man, his thinking is old-fashioned. You must understand why I had to do that. Now let's work through where we go from here.”

One either/or question:
1. Do you have a link to this citation? or;
2. Was your jokey comment created with just enough elements of possible reality that some of your audience (like me) are genuinely unsure whether this is truth or joke?

3. It was a dumb pun on Sollozzo and Salata that paraphrased Sollozzo’s words to Tom Hagen. I should just delete it. (When I SPAM the list with high volumes of nonsense, they’re not all gonna be winners! :))

It's actually still up on instagram, but only captioned as "RBY or Mueller?"

FWIW, Nomad is back to tweeting including linking some past FLO articles and a picture that he's back in Baltimore.

On FRL they've talked about Spey (in reference to his diet and other things here and there) but not about his absence.

Today on FRL, when pressed by Chael Sonnen, Pyles said that Downey was removed from the card not because of his tweets but for totally different reasons, which may lead some credibility to the other rumors.

The wrestling community ABSOLUTELY has a general bias TOWARDS (FOR) rural, conservative, nationalistic, religious communities and people along with values that stress narrow views of patriotism, race, gender roles, and the like. I grew up and competed in these areas in PA and there is no reasonable denying it if you look at the demographics, dialogue, and discussion among wrestlers, even outside the US.

And while many of us have left the closed and often close-minded small towns and rural communities and travelled or lived in more urban regions and other parts of the world, it is patently obvious that so many in the wrestling community have not or will not, and they in turn vilify or fear or attempt to "joke" about (i.e., routinely put down) more urban, cosmopolitan, free-thinking and free-acting cultures and people.

Secular humanism exists all over this country. “ Things “ are what matter. I have lived in cities all my life, and find the importance of material things to residents of cities and elsewhere a sad societal reality.
And look at who makes the money hey: entertainers who gladly scoop up the discretionary income that could be used elsewhere. Am glad to throw in ceos and their nihilist nature- watch them come out of this with all new ways to suppress compensation.

Entertainers and CEO's are an easy target and I agree that they are overpaid. But they are paid what the market will bear. If you want to restrict the market, then you don't believe in capitalism. If you really want to drill down to where the devil lies...It is the US Government itself. If they didn't squander away the social security money that hard working people sweated for their entire lives, all of our problems would be solved. Someone that worked for 45 years at an average annual earnings of $25,000/year would have had $55,800 withheld for SS taxes. If that money was earmarked for that person's own retirement and had it compound at 80% of the S&P 500 return during that time, that person would retire at 66 with $1,100,000.00. That is taking into account that the employer's share went to fund others that were not working/contributing. Imagine if all these retirees had access to $1,000,000. Think what it would do for the economy. Affordable health care an issue? Not anymore. So pointing an accusing finger at CEOs, athletes, and entertainers makes a good headline, but who has done more damage to the lower to middle class Americans? Our own elected officials and our need for entitlements without sound fiscal backing. If the US Government had the same fiduciary responsibility as pension fund managers and banks (which THEY regulate BTW), we would all be swimming in a clear blue pool.
Sorry for the fiscal/political rant, but as an employer I felt compelled to offer my own take. 99% of employers care deeply for the folks they employ.

... If you want to restrict the market, then you don't believe in capitalism ...
That slogan is oversimple and useless.

There are an infinity of things that you can call “the market”. Anyone who wants to choose one over the other can use the simplistic slogan against the other, and we’d be nowhere.

And a true, almost-efficient market is a fragile thing that is guaranteed to not exist unless strong government safeguards it with law and order, which includes regulation to control externalities, to control monopolies and the like, and to control transaction (switching) costs, etc., etc.

And even an ideal market only guarantees efficiency; it does not by itself ensure other goals, such as a happy population that does not die in huge numbers and does not want rebellion, etc., etc.

And what does the slogan think the word “capitalism” means? ...

Simplistic slogans are not helpful.
