More Trouble Brewing in Ann Arbor?

I know one thing for certain. Although I hate them both I will be rooting for Michigan when they play...and no, there won't be any tiebreaker because we ain't even beating Maryland let alone Michigan
I think people are going to be disappointed in the speed that the NCAA will take doing an investigation. The NCAA organization is broken. It will take longer than people think. IMO

One of the advantages of the BiG’s expansion is that USC and Oregon won’t tolerate this nonsense. Unless of course they’re engaged in nefarious activities themselves. And you know that USC will, just as the Sun rises in the East.

None of that matters to Harbaugh. His national championship is all that matters and if it's vacated he could care less.

I'm sure the NCAA has some latitude as to how they want to count them. But 30 (as a minimum) seems easily proveable. And I'm sure that would be enough for quite the harsh penalty.

If the coordinators were in on it, which seems obvious, then Harbaugh is by definition incriminated. In fact, the idea of a low-level "assistant" nobody ever heard of traveling around the conference to perform illegal scouting on his own dime is laughable on its face.

And now comes video evidence of this guy on the sidelines with the coordinators?? It's game over for Michigan.

This is serious business. I think Jim's goal at this point is to win a national championship and then ride off in the sunset to the NFL before the NCAA posse arrives in town.

He will leave faster than Pete Carroll did.

The low level assistant you are talking about didn’t go to other games. He allegedly bought the tickets but he wasn’t the one who went to the games.

Ah, the old “he didn’t go but allegedly bought the tickets for others” defense. That’s right up there with the “I was only following orders” defense used by the NAZI’s at Nuremberg.

I’m sorry. All I did is read the same articles everyone else has. In those articles it states exactly that.

Can I post an ‘agree’ but not a like?

If they get punished but agreed. It's a huge flaw with the system
And the fix for this is so simple. Any sanctions imposed would apply to head coaches as well. Minor infractions probably wouldn’t matter but scholarship limits, etc would hinder another team hiring them. Yes, a fortunate few can move on to the NFL, but rest would be forced to live in the hell they created.

I do think that's the most fair option

Stop responding to Lando.

The true and best way to stop crap is for the schools affected sue the head coach and all quilty assistants for damages. The school where he is employed could sue for back pay plus damages for violating his contract. Any school that lost to them during this time period could sue for damages. Go after their wallets. That would stop a lot of stuff.

In fact, I am surprised this hasn’t happened before in this sue happy country. Seems pretty obvious.

OK, then to rephrase: the idea of a low-level assistant buying tickets, unilaterally and without the knowledge of higher-ups in the program, for himself...or someone...to do illegal scouting with the purpose of stealing opposition signs is laughable.

I mean, dear God, they've got the tape.

I'm sorry, but the Michigan football program, to include its head coach, is up to its neck in this. If you believe otherwise, I have some oceanfront property in Nebraska for sale...cheap.

Ready for this? I agree. I’m curious what all the ncaa will find in their investigation.

Where did he get the money to buy all those tickets? Not to mention airfare, hotel, food, high end escorts, cash bets, etc...

Low level assistants and their assistants aren't paying for all that on their own.

The staffer made $55,000 a year and bought two tickets for each game and people travel to the game. It had to of cost, $1,000 per game. Undoubtedly, the Michigan football program footed the bill for the expense of going to the games and buying the tickets.

So they visited Tennessee instead of TCU. Lol

You know, my thing is this. Before '21, Michigan was anywhere from 2nd in the East to 4th. Yeah, they had some teams that dominated us, but they still never won the East division a single time from '15 to '20.

Then, without recruiting shooting up from 12th-ish to top 5 level, they go on this run. Outside of '21 UGA, their offense has basically demolished everyone. Defense, the same except you can add TCU to the list.

It's bizarre to say the least. So bizarre in fact, I'm willing to bet the only thing that comes from it is rules changes (headset to QB, 1 defensive player).

There will be expense reports

But he's the "military analyst" who analyzed the video that people took at those games and had laminated call sheets of the other teams signs at the start of the game.

Yes. I haven’t said otherwise. I was responding to the poster that said he was actually at the game in person which doesn’t (so far) seem to be the case. I wasn’t defending anything

I would hope not. Putting any kind of paper trail on this aside from what is needed to buy game tickets, plane tickets, and lodging would be next level stupid.
Well what you listed above should alone be a reasonable starting point. If an NCAA investigator had half a brain or real interest (which is still to be determined). The first question might be “Why did UM purchase said items for these varied individuals”?

I mean everything is electronic now unless they were repaying him with cash and he was just putting it in a box under his bed. And even then you'd have record of the cash withdrawals.

Cash reimbursement wouldn't be too hard to hide, especially if it's through a 3rd party or donor, or the ever popular "miscellaneous expenses" line item.

The irony of course is that with us, no defense really needs any signals 😂😂😂. We will do just fine going 0 for 15 on third down with our quarterback throwing scatter shot footballs nowhere near our receivers off his back foot.

I fail to see any humor in this and wonder why people are making jokes about it.
What else are we going to do. We can't control any of it.

If you feel that strongly, get yourself to Indianapolis or Ann Arbor and get the ball rolling.

Besides, there is a decent chance that the BIG and NCAA take it as serious as those that are joking about it.

I don't seem to remember any jokes when it was Penn State on the brink of the program under investigation.

Well, "paper" is the wrong word. There is no longer "paper" but an electronic trail.

He paid with a card. Did he use his card? Was it reimbursed by the university or another coach? These things are all done electronically and there will be a "trail". It is just a matter of how hard someone wants to look.

The guy made something like $55k a year. He didn't spend $20k of his own money to travel around the country attending football games. There were airplane tickets, hotels, meals, land travel and game tickets. Ten games would cost ~ $10k at least. Probably double that. And, perhaps more. He didn't pay that money on his $55k salary. So who did? Where are the records? And if he was given the cash and not reimbursed, what this cash on his tax return?

It will always be a paper trail to me even though I realize it's not printed on paper.

Incidently I'm still waiting for the "paperwork reduction act" here to kick in at work. Seems like more paperwork than ever, i just dont print most of it out.

It wouldn't be hard to hide but it would then raise the question of how/why the dude was spending a huge chunk of his net pay on football tickets to games he wasn't attending.

no longer true. you've got to get the cash. And if the cash withdrawal from a bank account is over $3500, the bank reports this as a "Large Currency Transaction Report". Those are sent to the feds who look into why an entity is moving cash currency instead of electronically. And when it is a high-profile subject, it gets worse. This has been done to track human trafficking and drug money.

Remember the Gov of NY, Elliot Spitzer, who got caught hooking up once a week with a high-end "escort?" He was taking out large cash withdrawals to pay her so it wasn't on a card. The bank reported it. The Feds were concerned he was being blackmailed so they followed him. They found him going to a hotel with a young lady a couple of times a week. Boom.

Moving cash is as hard as using electronic means these days. This is why drug dealers own high-cash businesses like car washes (breaking bad), pizza delivery, charities, and independent churches. Lots of inner city "charities" are fronts for drugs and prostitution so they can hide high-cash movements within the believable world of a high-cash business. Another example is the church that gave out coke in the series "Ozark" at some kind of weird sunday church boat gathering. The coke was put into bibles and paid for in cash. The "church" then deposits the money as if it was an "offering" of cash from the congregation.
