I recall after last year's Nationals thinking that 133 was clearing out a good bit, and that a lot of guys, like Jimmy Gulibon, that were on the edge of contending would be right in the mix this season. And to a large extent, that's been the case.
Recently while putting together one of the weekly reviews of rankings, I started noticing a crazy trend at 133 within the B1G.
Using InterMat's rankings (picked at random -- no real reason for using them), check out what is in the B1G, and will have 2 more years left.
#3. Ryan Taylor - Wisconsin
#6. Jimmy Gulibon - PSU
#7. Cory Clark - Iowa
#8. Zane Richards - Illinois
#12. Danny Sabatello - Purdue
#15. Eric Montoya - Nebraska
#17. Scott DelVecchio - Rutgers
then add in juniors in the B1G that are ranked at 133 that will have 1 year left:
#9 Rossi Bruno - Michigan
#11. Johnni DiJulius - Ohio State
#19 Dominick Malone - Northwestern
The only seniors, from across the country, that are ranked in the top 20 but will be departing from 133 after this season are:
#1 Chris Dardanes - Minny
#2. A.J. Schopp - Edinboro
#13. Nick Soto - UT Chattanooga
So heading into next year, you'll have 10 guys from the B1G that ended this regular season in the top 20, and 5 from the B1G that ended this regular season in the top 10.
133 will be an absolute war in the B1G next year, and the first group of guys I listed will be fighting for the rest of this season, and for the next 2 years (assuming they all stay at 133, none get injured, etc.)
There really is an amazing collection of young talent in the B1G at 133. Should make for a lot of fun matches over the coming 2 years.
I haven't done a detailed analysis of each weight class, so it's possible that there are other weights that have as much young talent in the B1G. I simply thought it stood out that without even considering redshirted guys, or incoming studs, the B1G is loaded at 133 for a few years.
