Nattie Observations - great time, great wrestling, great people, & great event!

- Good to meet PointingDogs in person! Also the folks around my seat. It was worth paying the Capt Morgan rates for the seats as I know I'm not going to Minny next year and needed to see N & N win it!

- Stayed in the strip with my wife and had a good time in that area

- Ran into Cutch and Nico. Nico didn’t understand my comment to him when I told him he ruined my weekend (the week before). I explained that I stayed up all night watching him and he laughed.

- Good to see Zain taking pixs and handing out autographs in the Capt Morgan section before one of the sessions

- Robbie Howard and family were sitting in the same row. We got ‘another one’!!

- Didn’t see Verk or NN with the team. That saddens me for some reason.

Official/Rules: I know it is a hard job with the greatest athletes and they are on center stage, but there are times they can make up for some missed calls....

- Ref #3 needs to go. Not only did he miss RBYs takedown he made a few other blunders during the week. Called stalling on a Cornell wrestler after shooting a single and hanging on (never saw that call before (as far as consistency)). There were a few others.

- Although from Va now, was disappointed in JR as he appeared dis-interested in a couple of the late consi matches. JR is from the Richmond, Va area.

- Disappointed in all of the ‘2nd’ referees for not voicing their opinion enough on some of the reviews.

- Reviews need to be done by an independent official. I liked the initiative to review their own calls a few times.

- The review just to review since I still have my block is not good for TV.

- Still wish they would call stalling in the 1st period like in the 3rd. Just inconsistent. Ref’s need to forget about the score.

- It appears they call stalling on the guy being pushed out when he hangs on the edge or puts himself into that position. I don’t mind that. I don’t like the head down and a straight push. This needs called a lot more and not just once in a while. Consistency.

Team – I thought the other coaches and wrestlers did a good job against our kids. You could tell the strategy going into some matches were effective.

RBY – when he moves his feet he is dangerous. Consi’s confirmed he needs to bulk up a bit. Would of liked to see him use his quickness when on the bottom on the whistle… I think he’ll make the adjustments on his shots that end up him being merkled. Too bad he didn’t get the TD against Desanto… would have changed the match. Speaking of that, Pletcher demonstrated how to take Austin down (right on the whistle!) during their consi match. Glad he is only a freshman. Want to see RBY use both arms next year when wrestling DeSanto!

Nick – is not the biggest 141 (to the eye). I thought he was going to beat Joey. Learned a good lesson from Demas and not worried about future matches… Gotta love watching him wrestle!

Berge – I think Brady is a controlled wrestler like Mark. Hated to see him not get to his O with Thorn. He looked confident but didn’t take the shots when he needed to. I know we’re going to see good things from him.. count on it.

Jason – The Master. Ref called him on his feet with the remarkable review (albeit their own) of the semi’s TD. I thought it was a good call until I saw it on replay. Hidlay wrestled well. Thought Jason was going to get a fall from the Az St kid and Berger. Hate to see him go but have tickets to Raleigh to watch him in freestyle in a few months. Do we all really understand 60 pins and his career bonus rate?

Cenzo – although wife is a Hokie I really hated this. Wanted Cenzo to get 3 real bad. He gets the least amount of props but is one really, really good wrestler. Still bothered… However, after watching him during his redshirt year wrestling Chance twice at the scuffle, you knew he wasn’t bad!

Hall – Valencia might be right.. Hall did seem to be more defensive than offensive. Wish he would take a page from Jason’s book. Talent out his ears! Still have to review the final, not sure how the ref called that 2 (from a consistency basis). Mark still needed to escape though. Regardless of how good he is – what a great kid/man! Stories at the social were good. So glad we have another year with him.

Shaq – I heard he was in bad shape Wednesday night – back and knee issues. I wonder about the MyMar match up due to Shaq’s ability to scramble (hindsight of Mymar losing). This one burns though, as it was his for the taking!

Bo – what swagger! Great to see him come through. The Hokit match was fun. As it turned out, Hokit had a great 5th place match (he got robbed) – good athlete but shows you the level Bo is on. Will be interesting to watch this Spring – assume he will be at DTs weight.

Cassar – thought he was going to get hit with a lot of stalling calls the way that finals match started out. I know Gable is strong, but for 230 Cassar is too! Hope to hear soon what his future plans are

Misc – Fun to see Cunningham’s kids on TV (Session 5).

- Interesting seeing Zahid warming up in the Saturday morning session. Must have ate too much breakfast!

- Get ready for the Conel debates. Heard it is official.

- Interesting that Varner got elected to collect the most dominate award, not sure where Bo went

- Contrast between team trophy carriers…. TanTom is center as you would have guessed.

- Ryan and Brands don’t win favorite awards as I can’t stand listening and watching them coach…

Didn't Hokit win his fifth place match against Miklus? How did he get robbed?
