Growing up I loved baseball and had barely watched any college football. Fell in love with college football on my visit to Penn state fall 1986, enrolled fall 1987...
Didn’t watch must baseball for many years. When the Nats moved here (2005) started to get back into baseball. Went to the werthquake game with my dad who passed away less than a year later. I had been to all the home playoff game this year, but was in myrtle beach for my sons’ baseball tournament the 3 days the Nats hosted the World Series....
about midnight after the Nats won game 6 I booked flights to Houston for me and my wife for game 7. We got to the park a couple hours early. My wife got a ball in batting practice. We were in the highest deck, but we were in the park.
After the 8th inning we start walking behind the Nats dugout. We were able to see the last 3 outs about 10 rows behind the dugout. As soon as the game ended we were able to get to the front row and watched the celebration and several people texted us that they saw us on tv...
It’s getting late and not many people remain in the park. We try to see if we can get clpix with the mlb crew of papi, big hurt,
arod, but no luck and we were told we had to leave - probably the last fans to leave the park....
we didn’t have anything to do and we heard the team was staying at the four seasons so we meandered over there and went to the bar. There were not many Nats fans in town and not that many at the four seasons either. We saw a big group of players and families come in. I shook Stras’ hand and he gave me a huge smile as I congratulated him...
then players started coming down and we got pictures with Taylor Rainey, Michael a taylor, Kurt suziki...and Anthony rendon, Max Scherzer and Juan Soto...
we also got pix with big Papi and the big hurt...
and I ate wings with Juan Soto and his family because they didn’t eat all of what they ordered...
As you can imagine it was a pretty cool night!
