N.C. state Nebraska

Those PA boys are damn tough..

Hidlay is great. He could never get past Kemerer in HS. It will be interesting to see them wrestle again now that they are at D1.

How do you think Nolf-Hidlay goes down? I’m not suggesting Nolf loses, but a MD might be a tough ask.

The feed cut out at 2-2 with Hidlay having a takedown. When it came back it was 4-3 (another TD then escape) and he finished at the end with another TD

I expect Hidlay to give Kemerer a serious go. Neither will be very competitive with Nolf.

Wow in 184... a takedown and three reversals in less than 20 seconds... I want to watch Venz wrestle Bo...

Could not figure out why Venz took down in 3rd period. Down 8 - 6, riding time down to 4seconds and had NCST tired.
Take neutral, get the TD and ride him out again.

Been a bit of a downer in that Nc St. has just dominated, but hopefully the main event makes the wait worth it.

It appears it will take Breske some time to return to his old self after a year off with a knee injury.

What was Jack doing at the end of that match. He turned a sure bonus win into a regular decision.

Watching it now, I thought the same thing. Venz is exciting though, gotta love what he brings to the weight. He got out-veteraned there by Renda but I can see him beating him next time they meet.

Hidlay looks ridiculously strong at 157, can't wait to see him vs Nolf.

Didn't Hidlay and Manville have some close battles in HS, with Manville generally getting the better of it? I think they wrestled in both FS and folksytle.

As far as I can tell, Nolf has beaten Berger the 3 times that they've wrestled in college by major, major and tech fall. The transitive theory doesn't always work because of styles (not to mention injury, mindset and a bunch of other things), but if hanging around with Berger is the only reason to assume that Hidlay will give Nolf fits......well.........I'm not suggesting anything about the relative strength of a kid like Hidlay, who is surely an exciting wrestler, but I don't believe he'll hang with Nolf until I see it with my own two eyes.

It appears Hayes might be the real deal. #Guns8scoringwrestlers
Much better than I expected. I was a bit skeptical of him after seeing him in the Princeton Open opening weekend. But I could be wrong, that is a good win.

or has Kolo peaked? has his bonus % gone up? Is he scoring more points than last year per match?

no doubt a good or very good win, but Im just wondering if this could be a year that Kolo doesnt medal.

Kemerer beat him 9-6 at Midlands last year. One of Kemerer closer matches.
That initial year in a college wrestling room is huge. It (Hidlay & kemerer) should be a heck of a match. Neither is going to keep it close with Nolf.

He might be the lowest scoring guy with a winning record in college wrestling.

Did anybody watch the match?

Wondering if either guy took a shot. Also wondering if anyone was able to stay awake for the full 7 minutes.

I try not to watch Kolo wrestle because of what you are wondering about in your second "wonder". ;)

Here's my take from the G board:
Venz-Renda was the highlight of the night. After Berger and Breske had listless losses to more aggressive opponents, Venz came out to change the tone.
In the first 15 seconds there was a Venz TD, Renda reversal, Venz reversal, Renda reversal to a turk for four back points. Venz escaped late in the period to make it 8-5 Renda.
Renda chose down to start the 2nd and Venz pounded him. Renda earned a stall warning and then got hit with a stall point as he was ridden out. 8-6 Renda.
Pops then charged the scorers table trying to give his tired wrestler a break. After jawing with the ref for a while he did get a bench warning, but accomplished what he intended.
Venz was fired up and feeling it so he ran to the middle of the mat and stayed in the DOWN position while this was going on. A relieved Renda said ok and promptly threw the boots in again and rode him out. Final 9-6.
I often talk about he importance of match strategy. Even though Tyler was "feelin it" the coaches should have instructed him to go on his feet.
The only other highlight was Kevin Jack cruising to a major with an 8-0 lead, riding time, and 13 seconds left. Jack decided to showboat and cut Red, who promptly double-legged him for two and then threw a hard crossface to end the match. Jack was plenty fired up but no major, 9-3 final.

The Wolfpack were very muscular and aggressive, completely dominating the hapless Huskers.
Their upper weights are so strong that Michael Boykin is a backup. Underrated Hidley is a strong AA this year.
Look at their loaded roster; rjr starter Sean Fausz left at home, neither Morris twin (Jamal, Jamel) starting, sophs Thomas Bullard and Nick Reenan on the bench.

I hope Pop can keep his depth under wraps....never know when someone(s) will start saying his program is dirty and start calling the compliance office.
