National Duals Comparisons for all 8 matchups

Can someone explain to me why the #2 team in the B1G (Iowa) is not playing the second highest ranked non-B1G team (Virginia Tech)?
No, :)

Judging by Dresser's twitter post this morning, sounds like this is what he wanted as well.

I was hoping for a VT match up aswell. Iowa hasn't lost to ISU in like 15 years but they could have lost to VT at the duals, a team ISU beat earlier this year. Not a fan of this national duals format at all

I think in principle, this new format works if played out as intended... (highest B10 vs highest nonB10 etc).. in that case, you would have PSU vs OKST & IA vs VT.. It sounds like a lot of this had to do with scheduling of teams (already had matches this weekend)/ and gulp..."geography"....(after one gets on a plane, it doesn't much matter if its a 1 hour or 4 hour ride)... What baffles me is that this was all figured out before the season, and wasn't this coming weekend already designated as the Dual Championship Series weekend?. - so why are teams scheduling matches the same weekend?...

And shouldn't we already know when NEXT YEAR's Dual Championship Series is and to NOT schedule duals for that same weekend.??.. and be prepared to travel to a NON-Big10 venue?.. .. geesh.. its like any other sport's championships.. it comes every year for a designated weekend.. .. so plan for it..

Until teams take it seriously, and there is a real championship, it will always be treated as a "I'm in as long as its convenient" scenario.

What I did like was the "controversy" of it all.. it did create some buzz and chatter, similar but on a much smaller scale - to the BCS or March Madness announcements.. - Not everyone has to agree about the "where" and "who", as long as we are talking about it..

Looks to me like VT got hosed. Rumor coming from some VT fans is this was Brands doing. Maybe Scrams, I mean Brands...( just kidding Iowa fans, a little pun on all the guys on your board that like to say Bale for Cael)... knows how well VT matches up with Iowa and doesn't want to take the risk? Wouldn't look good for Dresser, an Iowa guy himself, to bring in the team Brands bolted from and get the better of Iowa at Carver, would it?!

Come on now, when VT was healthy they crushed ISU this year. OKst lost to NC state this year when many of their studs were not wrestling. The powers that be seem to have given them a pass on that one. Why none for VT who just beat NC state?

The dual championship concept was fine. BUT someone didn't like how the rules should have setup the matches, so now the #2 B1G team doesn't play the #2 non-B1G team. Its a sham; we should ditch this concept until all play by the agreed to rules.

Scrams and Brands. You can do better than that! Come on now. They don't even rhyme bud

Amazing. Make sure to apologize in advance otherwise you won't be able to crawl over to HR and get your ears scratched.

Yeah I know ISU beat VT when they had some injuries. I was just pointing out that Iowa could have lost to a team ISU beat. Crazy

I didn't apologize to anyone because of any fear of repercussions on HR. I think I have about 4 posts on HR in the last 2 years. If apology it is, its directed to those, lets call them, more sophisticated Iowa fans that don't use the Bale=Cael reference.

Who isn't playing by the rules?

Whoever is making the rankings. OK state gets a pass for the loss to NC state? No pass given to VT for the loss to ISU? How does that work?

I don't agree with it either. But to suggest that there is corruption going on by the committee (which includes Kevin Dresser) is blasphemy. Then to suggest that Brands, a coach who isn't even on the committee and has never backed down from a challenge, is pulling the strings. Now that is even more ludicrous.

Makes you wonder and that is why subjective rankings reek. Fortunately in wrestling the champions are determined on the mat and not by a poll. Flo has it #5 VT and #7 NCS; Intermat has it #4 VT and #7 NCS; Wrestling Report has it #4 VT and #8 NCS; WIN has it #5 VT and #9 NCS. BUT NCWA has it #4 NCS and #5 VT and that was after VT beat NCS. As I said, makes you wonder.

As was stated above, Dresser's twitter post didn't sound like he was real happy about going to Michigan. I believe I mentioned that it was a rumor from some VT fans, again on twitter, that Brands was behind this.

I haven't suggested there is corruption going on, but I surely don't understand these rankings. Ok state lost head to head to NC state and have two loses, how are they ranked above NC state? I guess because they had a lot of injuries at that time so they were given a pass for that loss by "someone"? VT has two loses and a win over NC state but are ranked behind NC state? I guess if its not corruption you could call it incompetence?

Your right, Brands isn't the type to back down from a challenge and maybe I'm just stirring the pot here a little bit. If I am its because I'm pi$$ed that we won't get to see VT vs Iowa. Its clearly a better match-up on the mat and with the intrigue stemming from Brands departure from VT, it seems like a no-brainer to match these teams up. All wrestling fans, not just the ones from VT and Iowa are losers because of this rankings anomaly?!

Incompetence is the likely answer unfortunately. Trust me, I am on record of wanting the VT/Iowa matchup too. Posted about it a couple times of on HR. It is just frustrating to see people on Twitter suggesting that it was Brands without any basis.

I'm sure you would feel the same way if people were saying that Cael pulled strings to get a beat up Oklahoma state team instead of NC St.

Haters gonna hate hate hate

No truer words ever said when running up steps.

No...don't think I'd feel the same way. Guess I'm getting pretty much accustomed to people taking shots at Cael. I mean C'mon, "pulled strings to get a beat up Oklahoma state team", that's nothing, isn't it common knowledge over on HR that Cael is the architect of the entire broken NWAC national duals as they are now configured? As a Penn State fan I think I have grown a pretty thick skin. I mean, when your teams on top there are those who are going to take a shot at them. As an Iowa fan, surely you can remember that far back?
