Would also love to know how many bonus points were scored by the champion each year as I think that is the key factor in sepratubg champs from the field.

2009 Iowa ?

2-3-4-4-7. 96.5 pts.

Yuck. Must have been a helluva "race" w parity.

Iowa - 96.5
Ohio St - 92
Iowa St - 84.5
Nebraska- 78.5
Cornell - 73.5
Edinboro - 72
Missouri - 70

That's a pretty crazy race.

Is that Iowa St finishing a strong 3rd. I thought Cael couldn't compete with Iowa when he was at Iowa State?

When I look at 2010 and 2012 or for that matter 2013 and 2016, what I notice first is the significance of 5 finalists and multiple champions.

I wouldn think all things being equal, 5 finalists is rare.

Rare, even though PSU has pulled off the feat in 3 of the past 5 seasons.

2016-17 maybe be our most balanced team ever and I doubt we have 5 finalists.

Penn State only;

Bonus Points at NCAA Championshipss
2011 -- 16.5
2012 -- 25.5
2013 -- 29.5
2014 -- 20
2015 -- 6.5
2016 -- 23

Since 1961 (56 seasons), 19 teams have had 5 or more finalists (5 teams had 6 finalists during these years). That's 34% of the seasons, so maybe not as rare as you think.

Hah. That's not what he said. He said it would be easier to win a National Championship at PSU than at Iowa State, referencing the amassed local talent vs the local talent and resulting recruiting battle next door.

This post about AA's should also allay the fears from the "black hole" posts that we need everyone scoring big at NCAA's to win it all.

Your black hole comment.....

Message boards wouldn't exist if all they served were stats, flowers and rainbows and witty .gifs. ......spice of life in my mind.

For every spyker there is a jefe. For every 21 guns there is a roar.

I wasn't referencing Cael, but instead a certain belief in Iowa City and surrounding parts that the Brands boys ran Cael out of the state of Iowa because Cael could not beat them and was lagging so far behind. I have always found that to be more than a bit silly. He was right there nipping at their heels, and as proven at Penn State he had no problem stepping in front and staying there.
