NCAA seeds discussions (brackets out @8 pm)

@smalls103. Was curious about something. On the Basch show you're saying you give Hardy the number one over Beau because of tournament and recency. That's ok with me but why then do you say Ayala 1 and Byrd #2?

Edit. You actually do it with Buchanon as well. You want to give him a mulligan and the #1 seed. Why no mulligan for Beau? Sorry Willie. Gotta call it like I see it. Peak bias with Hardy. Lmao

No way Byrd gets the #1. Conference champs mean something in the matrix.

Not sure about Hardy.

And Cardenas will probably get the 1 as well. Could also go to AJ as an undefeated conference champ (but has no "wins")

Oh OK. Lol. I also agree Cardenas gets the #1. 141 is weird since Beau has h2h win against Hardy and only 1 loss. I lean Beau #1 and Hardy 2.

Hardy lost H2H to Beau and Happel and Jamison; and he's behind Beau and Happel in RPI. He's not getting the 1.

1 seed at 141 is gonna come down to the coaches' poll. Before this weekend, the poll was 1 Beau, 2 Alirez, 3 Mendez, 4 Happel. Happel won B12s. How far up does he move?

Agreed on Beau at the 1. Better overall resume and didn't lose to Hardy.

149 is going to be a fun one too. I wonder where Van Ness falls.

Oh I'm with you. Willie seemed to think Hardy should get 1 because of recency and winning conference. I disagree with him.. I could see Happel as 2 seed over Hardy.

The cheat code prevails. It’s what the coaches think.

Conference Finish is right up there.

According to the NCAA, Greg Kerkvliet deserves less credit than Gavin Hoffman, Trevor Tinker, Stephan Monchery, and Ashton Davis.
Only undefeated conference champs really mean something.

The matrix is a really good system. It values wins over the field pretty much over everything.

Not sure the right place to put this but imagine everyone is wondering about Josh's health.

Basch yesterday on his show started by saying "Barr will be fine, maybe not 100% but should be good to go for nationals" He then proceeded to argue Barr should be considered in the Buchanan, Cardenas, AJ tier of contenders. That could just be the homer in him but I also don't think he does that if he thinks it's something that could keep him out or severely hobble him (could have said "if Barr is healthy, he should be in this tier")

Willie said he missed the podium and team pictures because he immediately went to the hospital likely to get tests (time is of the essence at this point)

Here's an email from a buddy of mine concurring with my argument that Penn State losing nationals is not only virtually impossible but would be the biggest upset in the history of college sports (makes Michigan losing to App State look like nothing)

It's not even just how good Penn State is, even though that's definitely the main thing, it's how spread tf out the other contenders are. There are 40 dudes currently ranked in the top 4 at a weight from 20 different schools. 9 are from Penn State, and 12 are from schools who have exactly 1 such dude. Nobody aside from Penn State has more than 4 (Iowa) and only 3 others have 3 (Nebraska, Minnesota, OkSU).

And among those 4 who have 3+ such guys, there's tons of overlap. OK State and Minnesota are both there at 285 and 184. Nebraska and Iowa are both there at 149. Nebraska and Minnesota at 141. Where there's an opportunity to pile up points for any of them, it's mutually exclusive and likely to be somewhat divided as the tournament progresses.

Basically, outside of Penn State, the only team with a serious shot at 100 points is Iowa, and they'd have to perform substantially above their current rankings and get substantial bonus points to do it. According to their Flo rankings, they're looking at 56 placement points. Even if they performed to expectation and got bonus points at the same pace as Penn State did last year, both of which, I mean, this is Iowa we're talking about so lmao, they're looking at 92 points. That's definitely not a bad tournament, especially for someone without a national champ, but this hasn't been good enough for a national championship since 1989, and in only about half of years since is good enough for second place.

You've got a Penn State team where anything less than 130 would be an unmitigated dumpster fire and a field where anything above 90 is exceeding expectations.

Should be entertaining to watch.
