A week ago my company hired a Notre Dame grad. She must of caught wind that I was a PSU grad prior to our introduction. During our introduction she said, "were not doing to get along" and referenced due to me liking PSU. I laughed it off and said hello like a professional.
Fast forward a week. Today another co-worker of mine who is a ND & PSU fan, says to me whats my thought on the new PSU logo. The new girl (ND grad) goes, "what logo?" When she hears we were talking about the new PSU logo, she says in front of everyone and essentially to my face, "Oh, they shouldn't even have a football team. That whole program should be shut down FOR EVER.".
I didn't say a word. I was SOOOOOOO angry. This new hire had the guts to insult the school I graduated from right to my face....at work....during company hours. She knows im a big fan of the football team. That was already established. I was so pissed off I didn't say a word. I ended up leaving my desk area.
What was I supposed to do? Or say? What is most upsetting to me is that this is a VERY COMMON opinion out there. This new girl is a Philly girl. Not from IN. That is how much PSU is hated in the eyes of people in our very own state. Its truly sad. I get it, not all people are going to be psu fans, but the hatred is immense, deep, and not going to change.
I now where she stands in relation to her thoughts on PSU/PSU football. I will never be able to have the same respect for her...its a shame. However, the simple fact that such a large portion of the population feel the same way she does makes me sick. I don't feel like I should have to sit and defend out school/football program. Hence, why I didn't even respond to her gibberish. Thanks BOT!
Its sad to think that we once had such a great reputation and now so many laugh at us and wish us the worst.
