Take this for what it is worth. Vols insiders are sure UT is making a run at Shoop. Some feel very confident he has mutual interest. Is there anyone with any real insight on shoop from PSU side?

No scoop, other than his wife and kids still live in Tennessee...so it wouldn't be a shock.

Good coaches have good jobs offered to them every single year. Coach Johnson had good job offers constantly. The question is when is the best time. And it's not necessarily the fastest move upward to head coaching, it's are you learning what you want to learn along the way so that when you become a head coach you're ready to be successful.

If forced to predict, Shoop stays with Penn State and Tennessee settles for a lesser-known but still-promising name. If something changes, we have Brent Pry waiting in the wings. Would love to keep them both in Happy Valley for as long as possible.

They do not his 1 son is on State College High School football team. Think you got him mixed up with Hand's family.
Its unfortunate that Tennessee isn't interested in Chef Herb. Would be a win-win-win (Herb, PSU and Tennessee ;-)

Shoop would be a coup for UT and can't blame them for letting it out there that they are aiming high after what LSU did in bringing in Aranda. However, with his family in State College and son on PSU roster, I can't see him relocating for the 3rd time in 3 years. If he's aiming to be a HC again someday (as has been reported), it's not going to matter where he's a DC.

If this turns into a move by his agent to get more money I say go ahead and go. I've been thinking since last off season when we went through this before that Pry is a very adequate replacement.

Per insiders (meaning rumor mill), shoop reached out to Tennessee first. It is now up to Tennessee to accept or reject.

This is utter bullshit.

He has turned down Auburn and LSU and has stated he wants to be at PSU unless it is a HC opportunity. Not leaving for TN DC job.

The chance that Bob Shoop reached out to UT for the DC position is the same chance that Bill Cowher reached out to JF to take Shoop's place.

Also to correct more nonsense, Shoop has a son at PSU who is on the football team.

Jesus Christ people need to get a grip. We are being played on this issue.

Nashville.... Since I live in Knoxville and it takes me 4 hours round trip when I go to Nashville and back. Would it not take Me Shoop the same tim

We keep hearing that Shoops wife and kids are in Tn. 1) why 2) where? Seems ansewrs to these questions would give usajor insight into the validity of these rumblings. Any ideas?

The timeline is humorous. So this has apparently been "in the works" for weeks, which means Shoop reaches out to Jones while his current DC is still employed and turns down two interviews with Mahlzan who already has an opening.

Agreed. How does someone reach out to a school about an opening before it's publicized that an opening exists?

Shoop may be interested in and could take the Tenn DC job, but I don' think it's likely. I do think it's obvious that people around the Tenn program (at least fans) have interest in Shoop. If he leaves, then it's "next man up". A healthy program in the 21st century includes coordinators leaving to be head coaches and assistant coaches leaving to be coordinators.

Hey buddy...I have family in Knoxville and it takes every bit of 3 hours each way....2.5 depending on where you live...definitely not a commutable option in my opinion....most certainly not for a football coach pulling in long hours every day.

This is an exact quote/statement that a troll would make...

Unless u can post a link to your insider rumor mill?? Prove us all wrong!

Undercover Trolls post something very negative or made up, then turn and disagree with it so they can hide like they are actually a fan

Nash is by no means a troll and is a very respected poster here. But, in this case, he's merely recycling the same "insider" crap that's been on the main board for days.

Fwiw. I posted on your board last week before we even played our bowl game that there were heavy rumors here that we were going to part ways with Jancek and that Shoop was the leading candidate. Our site posted a story tonight that Shoop is at the top of the watch list. Our athletic director is also prepared to sign our hire to a three year contract like LSU did with Aranda. Aranda and Shoop have same agent and he was in Tampa last Friday.

Pitt trolls will grasp on to anything in the hopes it will stop PSU and Franklin blowing their doors off in recruiting. The tally is 35-2 on commonly offered prospects.

The beatings will continue.

Thanks Chris92. Appreciate that buddy. I started a new thread because the other thread had over 120 posts and it had begun to just be fighting amongst posters. I wanted to see if anyone had any credible info from State College. On my end, as I have said before I have family who are UT alums and season ticket holders...and family in Knoxville. I got a message a few mins before walking into the Tax Slayer Bowl about Shoop. I keep hearing from folks that he is right at the top of their list. I wanted to see if anyone on here had any info on Shoop from State College.

That doesn't mean they are going to get him. Chip Kelly is right at the top of the list for the Pitt OC job.

Hey Judge...you are absolutely right...and I hope you are. That is why I am seeking out info. I am 100% certain he is at the top of their list and that is why I am a bit nervous. Anytime a good program is looking at one of your coaches, there is some cause for concern.

....he's already with a "good program".

Why did you reply this to me?? Wasn't towards Nash

Listen, ideally, you'd like to keep your good coaches. Michigan and Ohio State just lost their defensive coordinators this off season. Was that a disaster for them? Are people predicting doom for them? Of course not. It's the same for us. If you have good assistant coaches, they are going to be in demand. Franklin has said that he keeps a record of possible assistant coaches to replace guys who leave. If your head coach develops a coaching tree, that is a good thing. For Paterno's last 10 years, no one wanted assistant coaches from PSU (generally speaking). That isn't a good thing.

As Franklin puts together great recruiting class after great recruiting class, and starts to get this program where we all want it to be, he's going to lose assistants who go on to coordinator jobs, or head coaching jobs, or even to make lateral moves to programs that are willing to overpay to get them. It isn't the end of the world. OSU lost their OC last year, their DC this year. Are they reeling? Is their program "in trouble"? Of course not. In an ideal world, we keep Shoop. He's said he'd only move for a head coaching position. But everyone needs to relax either way.

His son certainly does not live in Tennessee. He plays for the State College football team and I talked to him yesterday.

Well, he has two sons and both are in State College. One goes to SCHS, the other PSU. Those are the only two kids he has, so I don't imagine that his wife is living alone in Tennessee. Add to that the report that they sold their house in Nashville and I think we can dismiss the family angle as an incentive for him to take the UTk job and listen to "Rocky Top" being played incessantly.
