Football NFL Combine Tracker - Penn State Football Edition

We had KLS for multiple seasons. He didn't get open against OSU and Michigan during his previous games. I don't think adding him back to the roster for '24 changes that. Could it have? It's an entertaining discussion, but we have actual data points to go off of:

2020: OSU 2 catches, 18 yards. Michigan 0/0
2021: OSU 4/49, Michigan 1/0
2022: OSU 2/58, Michigan
0/0
2023: OSU 6/52, Michigan 1/6.

0 TDs.

While this is certainly better than our WR stat line vs Notre Dame, it certainly doesn't inspire "we beat them with this guy!"
We were very close to osu and nd with minimal wr contributions. In fact a wr created his own int vs osu. They were a liability in both games. It is logical to say that even with avg wr play we win at least one of those games.

The team won more games this past season without Barkley than they did when Barkley was here so ... uh, voltzlogic says Barkley < Singleton or Allen. Or something. Good lord.

Vs your logic that psu is guaranteed to win with kls even though he played 8 games total vs OSU/ UM and had 0 tds. 3 of those games with 0 catches.

We heard the same spin the whole time kls was here. He had 0 tds vs osu and um in 8 games. 3 games with 0 catches.

No, I didn't omit it. I was talking about the talent and production of a WR that had what PSU lacked and what would have likely happened if that WR, KLS, would have been on the team to add to the team that won those games.

The fact that the team won more games without him was due to the rest of the team maturing and things falling into place on both sides of the ball, but that has nothing to do with the fact that if KLS had been on the team the offense would have been better, likely to the point where PSU would surely have beaten ND, but also PSU might have beaten OSU at home and surely would have beaten Oregon in the B10 championship game. Yep, PSU having a real WR weopon would have taken the offense to the next level.
KLS would have done no better vs OSU this year than the guys we had. He had already shown he couldn't get it done vs elite defenses. He would not have been much of a difference maker vs ND either. Maybe a catch or two but nothing that would say if he played we beat ND.

it is impossible to say. A year's experience in college football, and at that age, is huge. these kids are only around 20 years old. he certainly showed flashes while here at PSU.

I suspect PSU has had a development problem at WR. I don't know but we've had a lot of highly rated kids wash out at WR and unless we suck at talent evaluation, development is the only logical conclusion. This last year was the first under Andy K so perhaps it will get better this coming year. But if we are to challenge for a natty, this has to change.
