Deion Barnes and his preparation for the draft. Showed him working out in his PSU gear at a training compex in King of Prussia.

I spoke with him at SFO a few weeks ago. We both were flying back to PHL. He is excited about the draft. Believes that PSU will have a good season this year and that the DE position will be manned up to our standards! Super nice guy. Really enjoyed meeting him.

There was a report yesterday that the Eagles may be looking at Donovan Smith at number 20. I find that hard to believe. They said he is projected in the top 50, but that would be a big reach for the Eagles to try and get him at 20.

I still think Barnes left a year too early, but he did what he thought was best for him. I do think that the current and incoming DEs will be pretty good. I am looking forward to watching Sickels play this year.

Have to agree with you about Barnes, 'ro.

At first, I was stunned that he declared and I thought it was a horrible move. But, when re-watching games from last season and thinking about it.....what would staying another year have gained him?

I think Deion was already at his collegiate ceiling, and he has his degree. He could've benefited from another year in S&C, but he likely wouldn't have been much more than a 5th-7th round pick anyway. He doesn't have the athleticism of Aaron Maybin/Tamba Hali, and really, I don't think he could've improved his stock all that much.

I do not see the Eagles picking him at 20. I read their view is that he is a day 3 / 4 pick. We will see.

I have to agree that he left a year too early, but maybe he felt he had to. Either way, I don't know if the decision has a big effect on the result. The only wish that I have about his entire situation, is that Larry Johnson wouldn't have had an influence on him: It was tampering, and it was unethical, and I believe against NCAA rules, although I don't know for certain.
