Max Dean is my choice. Zain’s on Wall Street.
Why Max Dean? Honestly I don't know much about Max since he graduated. Nico as an attorney seems a logical choice for contract negotiations and the understanding of fiduciary responsibility to both sides.

In a nutshell, this position is basically for a Director of Marketing, so you would want someone who has the ability to sell the program. Whoever takes the job will have plenty of ammo to use. Best program in the country. Good school. Good facilities. Decent location. How to structure the NIL deals will require someone with a lot of business savvy. I'm not sure if the wrestlers who more recently graduated have enough experience in the business area. Someone more in their mid 30's or early 40's would be better. Of course, when you look at all the requirements, the ideal candidate would be Elon Musk! But good luck with that. It's going to be interesting to see who is chosen to fill the position.

I just submitted my application. Side note: they need to start playing interviews over the arena sound system again.

Or perhaps, interesting to see for whom the position was created.

I have a hard time believing Wharton grads would want a job in the $50-$80k salary range. A recent program grad makes sense to me. Max Dean seems very interesting to me, actually.
If you happen to hear anything while you're posted outside the room, please keep us in the loop. 😁

Yeah - check out the average starting salary for a Wharton grad. $50-$80k ain't gonna cut it.

That's an MBA. The undergrads are much lower, but still above the $80k number above.
This looks like a high level position that seems to require substantial marketing, business, tax and legal skills. I suspect the salary requirements of a qualified person would be well into 6 figures. Probably not a job for a new grad, regardless of school. I wonder if each of PSU's sports will have their own NIL Director?

A little research goes a long way.

Linked In Profiles:

Too many "Max Deans" to search, but I'm sure a Cornell grad commands more than

$56,200.00 - $81,500.00

As a general rule, in government and quasi-governmental organizations they try to bring people in at the lower end.

Both Nico and Zain are involved in financial sales; 50-80K isn't going to cut it for them unless they are willing to take a huge steps backwards. You don't get an AACSB MBA as Zain did to make less than 100K.

The position is going to require a lot of independent judgement, compliance and negotiating skills; it's obviously a new and developing area. There's likely to be a lot of ambiguity, especially in the first couple of years. Those kind of skills command better pay scales.

By way of comparison, here's a Commonwealth Fiscal Management Specialist 2 (the new fancy name for acccountant) posting

The earnings range: 56,900.00 - $86,514.00 Annually

Very similar, and FMS2's aren't inventing their job from the ground up. Quite frankly, the State is having great difficulty staffing right now. I have a friend who has been trying to fill an Accountant 3 for a full year.

Let's just say that Penn State being a quasi-governmental bureaucracy with its enormous maw buried deep in the public trough, the pay scale probably went through some HR "classification analyst" and it's too low to obtain a person with the requisite skills; as soon as somebody acquires some experience; they'll be poached.

It's worth at least $100K, and maybe more.

Is PSU Athletics governed by those numbers or is it the school itself? I always felt athletics was a separate entity.

I'm pretty sure if Cael views this as an essential function (and I imagine he does), he likely can go out of the range. Kraft will give Cael whatever he needs. Granted you obviously don't need to offer some kings ransom for this kind of job either.

Are you suggesting that North of 86K is a "king's ransom"?

The salary is low, but the employee can get paid to coach at NIL-Director summer camps. Nudge nudge wink wink. Also, the employee can sell his name, likeness, and image to advertisers. 😀

And his offspring can get 75% off their tuition
