No Steelers game tonite

Bettin the league already knows the game will be cancelled but won’t say it yet because they do want the Steelers to take a few days off and heal up. The Steelers lost their bye week because of Tennessee. Now they lost their four day break after the Thursday game.
The league doesn’t want the Steelers to run the table.....

I know. All those people tuning in to see them go undefeated. The league would hate that.

After the turkey is cooked put the tinfoil on your head to get better tv reception. It works.

Lol. Post was tongue in cheek......but I know lots of Steeler fans think that way. Fun listening to local talk shows.

If I told you Washington and the Ravens were scheduled to play big games on Thanksgiving, and one team blew out their division rival 41-16 to take over first place, while the other team had to have the game pushed back because they botched the Covid protocols, their starting QB is positive, and they’re about to become the first team that has to forfeit a game, how much would you bet that Washington is the Covid disaster?

Cancellation seems more likely as these Ravens cases pile up. Negative effects should belong to the Ravens, not the Steelers. A "no contest" designation could end up hurting the Steelers in their quest for #1 seed or even deprive the Steeler players of a game paycheck.

Steeler players will still get paid. Still, it’s hard to dispute your argument that this is all on Baltimore. Maybe it’s more than this but right now it seems to be a case of one man screwing it up for everybody. .

Should be a forfeit then if they do not play. Ravens still have plenty of players.

That seems like the best available option.
I had friends going to the game last night. That was the last night that Heinz was going to let fans into their games until further notice. The Ravens head trainer really screwed things up for a lot of people. The Ravens are supposed to play the Cowboys on Thursday so obviously that game has to be moved as well.

The NFL should have told the Ravens play with who you have healthy and practice squad players or forfeit. Simile as that. Catering to the Ravens like they did with the Titans.

The problem is the Steelers players wouldn't get paid in a forfeit. So to add what you suggested if they choose to forfeit, the Ravens should have to pay the Steelers players salaries for the game.

So the Ravens come out best in the NFL changes despite them being the cause of this mess?

The Steelers/ Ravens game is postponed to Tuesday. Assuming they play, the Steelers then have 4 days to prepare for their next game on Sunday. The Ravens get 5 days to prepare for their next game (as their Thursday game is moved to Monday instead of Sunday).

Why is Baltimore getting the better deal here when they are the ones who have caused this mess?

The problem is they can’t tell who is ‘healthy’ at this point, it’s too soon. So to avoid having Covid positive players on the field, they have to move it back

Because the Cowboys are involved. 🚽

What prevents the Steelers or any other organization from paying their players for the game?

The owners. 😏

Christmas bonus not allowed?

I just saw this ( According to ESPN's Chris Mortensen, the players on the winning side of a forfeit wouldn't receive their game check for that contest) which isn't very specific as to why a winning team in a forfeit can't pay the players their game checks. Could you please clarify this?

What prevents ownership from issuing bonus checks?

“If any games are canceled (and not later played) during the 2020 season once the regular season has begun, Clubs will not be obligated to pay the salary protected by applicable 2020 Guaranteed Salary during the 2020 season that would have covered salary for any cancelled games, provided that the foregoing does not apply to any salary guarantee, signing bonus, roster bonus, or reporting bonus earned but not paid prior to cancellation.”

This is all I can find on the subject; do you have other references?

Just the Tweet from Schefter I posted earlier in this thread.

Then it would appear that clubs can pay their players, but are not obligated to. I think if any organization wanted to go above and beyond it would be the Steelers.

I'm reaching on this one but there's a good chance the teams don't get a cut of the TV money if they don't play. If this is the case, the teams would have to pay out of pocket in a year they aren't making jack squat with ticket sales. I know it isn't exact, but Ben is getting in the range of 34 million this year. Paying him alone for a missed game would cost $2.125 million. I know the Rooneys are good people but business is business.

Relax Steelers fans...the Ravens are missing most of their OL and DL due to injury/Covid, their QB and top two RBs won’t be playing. Shouldn’t be all that “taxing” for the Steelers on Tuesday. Plus their next game is against Washington which will be kinda like a bye week.

Is Trace going to start?
