With this message I’ve the expectations of a lightning rod staring down an approaching super cell thunderstorm but nonetheless, I’ve got to get it off my chest.

As a leader of young men Coach Franklin is ‘the bomb’! He is a master motivator and propagandist. What he said to the committee while on the dais was prescient. IMHO he knew we wouldn’t get into the Final Four but he said what had to be said. It lays the foundation for the bowl game and for next season. As Brady Hoke said post game (paraphrase) you don’t want to be playing Penn State now with that chip on its shoulder. Spot on! Secondly, I couldn’t help but notice how Coach Franklin got into TM’s ear before the MVP presentation. My gut instinct says it was to remind him of the gravity of the situation; that is, a two-time Heisman Trophy winner is about to present you a trophy! Trace responded well, if not in awe then with deference. Our kids are well-spoken. Our kids are well-mannered. Witness the “yes ma’ams” and “yes sirs” when in front of the microphone. It makes one proud and it reflects on our coach.

That said, once again Coach Franklin exposed himself as a questionable tactician. You don’t go for it on 4th down in that situation; not at the down and distance, not so early in the game, not with our punter and not when you lack momentum. The guys in the booth called it “desperation” (BTW, the same guys who were lauding Wisky’s secondary up until that point). But I think it was more a case of impatience. With Gesicki’s touchdown coach knew how to attack that defense, and from that point on he was chomping at the bit to do it. But such reckless abandon almost put the team in a hole from which it couldn’t dig out. Do that against USC and you won’t. Surely, the other sideline sees it as a chink in PSU’s armor. How many times have we heard ”you take what the defense gives you”? Things that make you go hmmm.

Lastly, not only did Rasheed Blacknall have a monster game but Desean Hamilton did, too. Opposing defensive coordinators must be wondering who they’re going to cover. I lost count of how many players had a reception. When Irving Charles steps up look out! If the run blocking ever matures then we might be unstoppable.

That is all. Thanks for playing.

No one cares. You're a moron.

That is all.

If they would have made it, he would have been a hero though. He showed confidence in both his offense as well as his defense (if they didn't make it). That goes a long way in the players minds, and after all, regardless of what we think, that's all that matters.

Just remember, it only takes one play to potentially turn this team to dangerous levels. I personally didn't mind it, he was just trying to capture that momentum that they desperately needed at that time.

9 wins in a row...11-2...back to back 9 win seasons at Vandy. The facts prove you wrong.

That Paterno fellow tried to fake punt from deep inside his own territory. Against Florida State in the Gator Bowl. It did not go well.

They all make mistakes.

Fourth and two vs Pitt in 1978, however, worked out very well.

Not so much a month later in New Orleans though.

Some pop, some don't. Both calls by Franklin were severe risks that backfired, one of them even directly cost 7 points. Allow us to add that not one, not two, but THREE Wisconsin fumbles somehow avoided recovery.

Wisconsin got every break, all night long, and STILL lost while giving up 38 points. Great teams overcome.

Are we blaming Jay? Was Jay even born then? Not that that makes him less blame-worthy.

Regardless, you certainly won't win many games doing that! (I think he went for it one 4th and less than a yard from his own 15!! His own 15!! And up 17-0!! Some posters here would not have let him get back on the plane to come home!)

Early-career mistakes by good-to-great coaches at all levels are the stuff of legend. James' gamble in this game may be something he wishes he had re-thought. Since in my mind, I thought we were playing with house money anyway, I didn't like it but more or less understood it. He had confidence in both the O and the D, and there was time to overcome it.

Bet it took JVP a long time to recover from that Gator Bowl gaff, and a long time to get things moving in the right direction. I'd guess like 3 or 4 seasons?
Huh? What? About 9 months, you say? Hmmm. So those things can be overcome? Good to know.

I am sure Joe kept that gaff in his mind the rest of his career.

It's OK to support, like and be "sold" on a coach and still question and or criticize their strategy and moves on occasion.

Is everyone forgetting Urban's fake punt against Michigan on his own 20 or something? That was the worst call I've seen all year, so I guess Urban is a bad coach. It's called being aggressive and having faith in your team. If it doesn't work out, you overcome it.

It's SAEED Blacknall. For someone who pretends to know it all, you'd think you would know the correct names of our players.
