I've been watching a few of their games and something really interesting popped into my head. Since they lost their DCoord, will their Defensive Tendencies still be something to legitimately consider? Will the guy calling the Defenses blitz as often and in the same Down/Distances as the old guy?

For THAT matter, how about PSU's Offensive Tendencies? Memphis can't go by the plays or sequences that RR called because he won't be calling them on Dec. 28. They'll be purely guessing at what PSU will show them, within the confines of PSU's VERY flexible Offense.

So this could get REALLY interesting. The PSU new Playcaller will be trying to figure out what the new Memphis Defensive signal caller will show them. In this case I give a huge edge to the Offense, because whoever is setting up the gameplan (probably a guy named Franklin), can force the D to adjust play after play by using certain alignments, formations, motions, and blocking schemes. There's just not an awful lot that a new DCoord can install in a limited amount of time.

IMO it should come down to two things, both in PSU's favor. First, the talent discrepancy which is an obvious factor. Secondly, WHO adjusts more quickly to the "unknowns" that will be presented by both sides? With CJF having a strong hand in the Offense next Saturday, again I'd give the edge to PSU.

More "stuff" to follow as I watch more of Memphis in the upcoming days.
