OK State news - 2025-26

What's the deadline for the roster limit?

fall 25/26 year
I believe so, yes. Which once again goes to show that Penn State appears to be ahead of the curve. According to Wrestlestat:
PSU has 36 athletes on the roster with 6 in the portal (30)
Ohio State has 33 athletes on the roster with 7 in the portal (26)
Michigan has 33 athletes on the roster with 0 in the portal (33)
Nebraska has 33 athletes on the roster with 0 in the portal (33)
OkSt has 44 athletes on the roster with only 2 in the portal (42)
Iowa has 37 athletes on the roster with only 1 in the portal (36)
NC St has 36 athletes on the roster with 4 in the portal (32)
Mizzou has 42 athletes on the roster with only 3 in the portal (39)

If I'm a borderline wrestler in a top conference (like Evans or Steen) I'd be trying to secure a short term spot with a lower level school in my (top) conference now before the purge, otherwise I could be looking at Edinboro.

I don't think any of the Okie State fans have gotten over the top here yet, but I do admit that having them here lecturing or preaching at PSU fans on their own board has gotten old really fast. The victory laps might be even worse at this point and so far, with ZERO justification. Look, most of us here are big David Taylor fans. Most of us presumed that he'd be responsible for some resurgence of the program. But, to date they're thumping their chests because he's found room (or paid) for half a dozen decent transfers. He's also brought in a couple of good recruits. Very few of us doubt that Oklahoma State is probably going to take over national runner-up status for a number of years, but believe me, you're not in a position to be here lecturing PSU for anything and the victory laps are way premature. Yippee skippee, get over yourselves.
I’m sure something similar has been written about or thought about us over on tHR

I can separate Taylor the talented and much appreciated PSU wrestler from what is starting to shape up as Taylor the weasel coach.
I was at a camp that DT was supposed to be working. He showed up 15 minutes late, for his hour session. Showed a single leg. Didn't work with any kids. Only BSed with coaches, then called all the kids in 20 minutes early and complained about how he got screwed in the J'Den Cox match. I've thought he was a tool since then.

Ok St has 42 on the roster on Wrestlestat (including Figs). Two are already in the portal. The 30 keepers are:

Spratley
Ramirez
Figueroa
Sakamoto
McComas
Steen
Hughes
Vega
Purler
Hamiti
Jamison
Swiderski
Carter Young (?) - could be portal?
Hickman
Travis
Colin Young
Robideau
Lockett
Facundo
Guerrero
Routledge
Ryder
Thompson
Robb
Teague
Merrill
Haas
Goff
Doucet
Johnson

The ten remaining cuts/portals are:
Sam Smith
Jayce Mullins
Jim Mullin
Kolter Burton
Cutter Sheets
Jaxen Wright
Blake Skidgel
Trevor Dopps
Hayden Simpson
Benjamin Mower

Does anyone think DT is going to miss a single one of those guys? No offense to them, of course, but like Penn State, Ok St is not 3 deep with AAs.

Evans should be able to find a nice spot where he’s a starter.

Oklahoma State has become Michigan 2.0
Not really. They are not taking a raft full of single year mercenaries and ignoring recruiting. They took a couple one year guys this past year to make an immediate impact (which it certainly did for any potential recruit watching the one year transformation of Wyatt and Hamiti from perennial AA to champions who beat all time greats Steveson and KOT), but guys like Facundo and Ryder are more like PSU-style transfers with multiple years left to develop in the room. In addition, they are matching (or close to) PSU in the recruiting war as well. Michigan recruiting the past couple years has been the Mantanona brothers and a pile of meh.

Anyone else think Nebraska fans are having fun laughing at us, Okie State and Iowa this offseason?
It’s hard to hear them when they're 60 points in back of us.

And they’re probably too busy obsessing over their Walmart version of Mahomes

Michigan never ignored recruiting. They had a too-high miss rate on guys they landed, coupled with landing replacements a year or 2 too late.

TBD if Taylor's recruiting hauls materialize.

Yeah. I’m thinking of all the different ways I might interpret that. Having listened to Willie for some time now, I think it might mean calling kids (or their parents) while they are not yet in the portal.

Would love for @smalls103 to elaborate.
I took it to mean Nebby and PSU mainly build through the recruitment process but the other two are heavily into the portal

nebraska and penn state are vastly different than OKST and Iowa. night and day.
You brought up a very interesting point on the show yesterday. More thought needs to be put into when teams need to have their rosters set and when the portal will be available to kids that get cut. Steen was a great example. Kid transfers to Ok St. Very good chance he could be cut. Will be interesting to see how that plays out if he does.

He may not say it but I think he means some coaches are more ethical than others when looking to the portal and recruiting hs kids.

No chance they cut Mullin because the dad is a US Senator and has a lot of ties to the program

I understand that Steen is not on the cut line.
