Olympic Qualifier in Istanbul, 5/9-12

Forfeit over political bullshyt, forfeit your participation next time around.
Bingo. The entire point of the Olympics, and international competition in general, is to put all of that crap aside and just let the guys chase their dreams. And yet ...

For all the stuff that has happened in the world for decades, only 1 country has opponents refuse to face it. Nobody even boycotted the Russians after all their PED violations (not to mention their country's various aggressions). But several countries have for years boycotted the dirty Joos, and UWW and IOC won't do diddy squat about it, so it continues.

Part of me feels a little bad for the athletes and coaches, because it might not be their choice. OTOH, they get treated to a hero's welcome for refusing to compete against the Joos. And except for Dom Abounader, they don't quit their teams when forced to forfeit.

So, if you forfeit against Israel, your entire team gets disqualified now and booted from the next Worlds and/or Olympics. And your national sports officers get banned. If you won't compete against everyone, then make room for someone who will. Don't like that? Compete.

I think what you all are not seeing is these oic officials countries do not want to piss of the oil producing arab countries they buy off of. Its all about the money.

Nick Lee is no dummy. Look what Aaron Brooks training with DT did for him. Lee is the next force at this weight. Yes, he's helping Zain but helping himself in the process which is what he should be doing.
Also, Nick is the favorite after Zain retires, but has several guys at his weight who could legitimately threaten him in the near future: Alirez, Mendez, and Bartlett for certain; and IMO Van Ness has immense potential once healthy. The extra Team USA training could help him create some separation.

Sounds similar to the JO situation. Hopefully nothing, but… At least we know our backup is pretty good.
Julia Salata had some good info on Facebook about therapeutic use exemptions (even retroactive ones) and the time consuming process involved.

Ochir in round of 16 is brutal. I still feel like Zain can beat anyone in the world if he’s good off the scale but man this is not an easy draw
Hope his weight cut went well, tough first round right off the scale.

No. Just Zain’s training partner. Only one entry per nation not yet qualified for the olympics in each weight.

I deleted the post after looking it up myself. I had thought he was wrestling for some crazy reason.

It'd be cool if you could send multiple guys to this tourney. The brackets would end up massive though.

For Flo Subscribers, here's Nick vs. Ochir last July in the Finals at the ranking series in Budapest. He seems to live on the tricep + underhook (threw Nick for 4 and nearly the pin, then drove him out twice w/ the same tie), and has a very good gut wrench (2 x after the 4pter). Zain is pretty good at hand-fighting, so if Ochir is a one-trick pony, I like his chances.

in the back of my mind, I was hoping we could send a few to increase our chances of getting the weight qualified.

The transitive property doesn't always work in wrestling, but Ochir looked really good vs. Nick. Hope Zain doesn't need it, but I'm glad the repechage system is in effect.

How does one get to go for 3rd?
Same as the normal international brackets -- repechage system for anyone who loses to the finalists. But there will be an actual 3rd place match, as opposed to declaring two bronze medalists.
