USA Wrestling and the United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee have approved amendments to the 2020 Olympic Games Athletes Selection Procedures in the three Olympic wrestling styles.
Previously, the procedures stated that the highest-placed U.S. athlete in each category at the Dave Schultz Memorial International will qualify for the 2020 U.S. Olympic Team Trials. However, due to scheduling conflicts, the Schultz tournament will not be contested for 2019-20 USA Wrestling season.
Therefore, that qualifier will be replaced with the Last Chance U.S. Olympic Trials Qualifier. Previously only the champion of each weight class would advance to the Trials. Now, the amended procedures allow the top-two athletes from each weight class to qualify for the Olympic Trials.
A true-second match will be contested if necessary at any weight among the three styles.
The next major qualifier is the Bill Farrell International this weekend in New York City.
Below are the new selection procedures.
Note: These changes were also approved by all three styles’ Sports Committees and the Executive Committee.
