Olympics News

these comments about DT having a pretty favorable or half decent/tolerable draw are amusing. His draw is the best possible draw he could have at the Olympics. He is on the opposite side of Yazdani and the only other wrestler anyone even really mentions in the bracket from Russia is also on the opposite side.
Not quite true. He has the second best guy on his side 1st round in 4x world medalist Shabanau. Other than that, you can't ask for much more.

Brutal for TG, but Uguev is one of the bigger favorites in the tournament, so he'll most likely get pulled back in if he loses, so that's a silver lining. To win Bronze, he'll likely have to go through either Atri (IRI) or Atli (TUR). He's beaten both before, but they both hold the most recent victory. His history with Atri actually goes all the way back to junior worlds. Harutunyan (ARM) and Erdenebaat (MGL) are also solid in that other quarter. Good news is that he'd only have to beat 1 of those 4 to medal. If he can't beat Abdullaev (UZB) or Liu (CHN) in his first repechage match, he wouldn't medal with any draw.

Pace will be really important for the Uguev match. He's far more technical than Gilman, but I've seen him struggle more in brawls. He needs to turn it into a brawl, or you might say "iowa style" match haha.

NBC's wrestling coverage is fantastic, as good as it gets. JB and John Smith are doing a great job as are the hosts and announcers. TMS is a tremendous personality, and an amazing wrestler. I was very impressed with her interview and the Adeline Gray interview. Nothing but respect for both.

What are the odds NBC throws TMS some prime-time love tonight? Would be amazing if they showed the match, but I predict a highlight or two, and maybe, if we're lucky, an interview.

They really need to have her for an interview.... I agree that post match interview was awesome

Didn’t see this posted yet…
K Miracle lost her 1/8 final match to Chinese woman J Long 3-2 VPO1
J Long then lost her 1/4 final match by fall to Ukrainian Koliadenko thereby eliminating Kayla
Miracle should have gotten a 2 for exposure on her TD according to John Smith and I agree. Bad call and I watched one of our Greco men from PA get an exposure called on him when he was completely out of bounds and he lost by 2. Frustrating officiating.

yea the greco match was a huge disappointment as the scoring came from a false - false start!

"Well, you've got to beat the best to know that you're the best," Mensah-Stock said. "And that's what I keep telling myself. It doesn't matter the draw. You go out there and you beat whoever is in front of you because that's how you tell somebody that you were the best. I'm the bad draw."

On the NBC Sports app there is a segment from this morning called:

Wrestling
Semifinals, Medal Matches
Women's 68kg, GR 77kg/97kg & ...

The beginning of TMS's match is at about the 3:11 mark if you're looking for a replay.

Edit: you can also find it at this web link from above at around the 190:00 mark.

She better get that on a t-shirt before Spencer claims it

Great--now Mineo's tweet of TMS's speech is going a bit viral on twitter (like, well beyond wrestling twitter) Like that guy needs an ego boost....

Anyone else nervous for tonight?

I'm sitting in MD waiting for dinner. Having a libation. Waiting on my son to get home from football practice....and....I cant help but be nervous for DTs journey.

I need my head examined.

I hope to not be a basket case tomorrow.

I’m gonna need that NIL money. Should copywrite.

1 seed Micic (who's repping Serbia) goes down to Japan 7-0. Was winded and didn't have much to offer.

Yazdani: still good at wrestling.
Yeah, that's a good way of putting it. Ha.

Been fine with the TV coverage so far. Seems like they're trying to show as much as possible. Guess that has been the entire M.O. of NBC's coverage daily, however, sometimes to its detriment.

Yo folks. I'm locking this thread. It's old and we need a thread on Olympic Wrestling everyone can comment on.

Don't mean to dig up an older thread but felt this one was more pertinent to discuss other sports than Wrestling in.

I saw some comments about the Men's Marathon starting shortly on USA Network. It's gonna be hot as hell, with some guys probably dropping. The training for this must be like wearing garbage bag suits in the indoor swimming pools (kinda similar to how I tried to cut weight for wrestling back in the day).

Hoping that we can somehow pull out more Golds than China when the games are all over. We're down by 2 currently. Hopefully Women's Basketball, Volleyball and Boxing will net us some.
