Olympics News

Mensa-Stock is a Force of Nature. It's hard to imagine anyone stopping this whirlwind out of Texas. She reminds me in some ways of J'den Cox, except more offensive.

Hoping Hancock gets pulled back into repechage. He's wrestled fairly well.

TMS wins 10-4, will wrestle for gold. Much tougher match from the 2018 world champ, but TMS too good.

She got the first takedown while Cherkasova was on the clock, and it went into the break 2-0. Then Cherkasova got behind and got two more with a trapped arm gut; Mensah-Stock slipped a second gut to get her own two. With the score 4-4, TMS got a clean double and another two exposure. Needing something big, Cherkasova went head pinch but TMS slipped it and went behind. 10-4 final. She'll wrestle Nigeria for gold.

Apologies if this has been answered. NLWC sent out an email Saturday w a graphic on 6 wrestlers and the schedule for their matches.

Did not include Helen Maroulis. But I thought she was both in NLWC and on Olympic team…. ?

She transferred to Sunkist Kids shortly after trials. Still wears NLWC gear casually though, from her social media.

Zero action a minute and a half in, so Adeline is on the clock. Point Rotter, who then exposes Adeline on a poor shot. 3-0 at break.

Adeline gives up a four, down 7-0. Just doesn't have it at all. Step out makes it 7-1, a minute left. Adeline with a nice double, but still down 4. That's how it ends. Silver for Adeline.

Adeline didn't really turn it on until the last minute and desperation was setting in. Kinda surprising.

they knew each other and Adeline was countered on her fav shots. She can be turned one dimensional as you saw when she had the exhibition with Mensah-Stock last year

Did she just straight up fall on that first shot? Gray had a nice single and it I didn't see anything the German did to get her on the mat but perhaps I missed it.

Either way, heck of a career for Gray if she hangs it up now - amazing wrestler, person and ambadassor for the sport.

I thought it was a slip. Smith said it was maybe a loss of balance.

Adeline seemed pretty content and happy in her post match interview. Perhaps she hangs it up.

I don't know if there is a way to show Adeline's post match interview but she is a great ambassador for women's wrestling in the USA. What a great person all around. Hopefully she is back for Paris but a silver medal is still a great accomplishment!

I think she was trying to slip behind the leg with a trip (with her leg) and the German turned her hip into it

Incredible composure for that interview. Wonderful. After the world championships she deserved the gold but.... Great interview and rep of the sport.

I think she was trying to cut it back by blocking with her knee and using her head, but her head popped and there was nothing left to counter balance the force she was creating with it.

Camera angle wasn't helpful, but that was my thought too. But also that it was kind of doomed for being too slow and not recognizing that a quick adjustment was needed.

High level Greco still my favorite thing to watch.

THEY'RE LIFTING AND THROWING MOVING HUMAN BEINGS THAT ARE TRYING TO NOT BE LIFTED OR THROWN.

I'll give you this, Crop, when a greco match is good, it is really good. But too often, the nuance of what is happening is lost on me, and there are no scintillating throws. But you're right--nothing in sports is as exciting as a big 4/5 point throw.

Yeah, those moments are rare, probably more so the tighter the competition. One of the Flo guys tweeted a pretty depressing statistic about the amount of offensive points scored through a few rounds. That said, both Cubans gold medalists were entertaining. The US's Hancock was too, but his second match also illustrated why the final results often feel incongruous to what you just watched, with points coming on technical nonobvious nonsense. But hey, FS can sometimes feel like that too.

Bad scoring in TMS’ semi match. Should have been 12-4. She put her opponent on her back two times after the TD. JB and JS both commented on it.
She has to return to a defensible position and Tamyrah kept her legs split the whole time so her hips never turned down.

So if I'm reading the schedule correctly, Tamyra's match should be televised on USA around 215 pm CDT??

11:35 am and Adalines match replay will be on very soon if anyone wants to watch it.

The scoring and passivity have been very inconsistent. What else is new. Like the way they do the draws.

sorry crop but 9 out of 10 greco matches are about hugging each other till one wins 1-0 pure crap!!
That’s what a glass-half-empty person says. A glass-half-full person would say: “Hooray! at least Greco is not about kissing each other until one wins!” :)
