Thats just it though, Wallace has ALSO been killing it.I thought he and Saunders played really well in the blue white game, who would he be beating out Wallace? Whoever can get open and make plays get them on the field.
34/521/3 was Lambert-Smith's 2022 line, which isn't that far from muddling, yet some people are acting like he is a clear #1.I told my son at the Rose Bowl that I expected him to have a breakout day. He didn't...but we saw glimpses last season. He'll get his shot this fall...we'll see if he makes the most of them (ala Parker Washington and Jahan Doton in their sophomore years)...or keeps muddling for a while (like Keandre Lambert Smith did in his first few years).

Nobody should feel great about the Receiver situation at this point, although I suspect who is throwing the ball can play a HUGE part, and thankfully the Tight Ends and Running Backs are above average. It would have been great if either or both of Washington or Strange had stayed for one more season.
IMO Strange shouldn't be a big loss with Warren & Johnson back. WR is the problem. It would be nice to see Saunders live up to his star rating.34/521/3 was Lambert-Smith's 2022 line, which isn't that far from muddling, yet some people are acting like he is a clear #1.

Tight ends and running backs are Very Good. This should allow an average to above average WR corps to shake down and become good/very good throughout the season. They all have speed, and are very good athletes. Franklin identifies talent as well as anyone. Repetition should allow development and progression. They’ll be fine.34/521/3 was Lambert-Smith's 2022 line, which isn't that far from muddling, yet some people are acting like he is a clear #1.

I expect him to be our #1 wrWhat about the two transfers? I expect Cephus to emerge as fall camp rolls on. If not, that will be a bit of a disappointment.
Eh I dunno we may need him to be great. 1000 yard type of guy to make the playoff. We need to Cephas to start. He doesn't have to catch for 1000 yards. He doesn't even need to be great. But he needs to be a very good Big Ten receiver.
The other guys is likely to be a depth guy...but he's younger, so he has time to grow.
I think between Saunders and Evans one will breakout.IMO Strange shouldn't be a big loss with Warren & Johnson back. WR is the problem. It would be nice to see Saunders live up to his star rating.
Don't think so but who knows.Eh I dunno we may need him to be great. 1000 yard type of guy to make the playoff.
Playoff teams typically all have "that dude" at wr/TE. Not sure who else that would be for us. I dont see it In Lambert-Smith. I could see Theo Johnson having a pretty big year though.Don't think so but who knows.
You didn't see it in Jahan Dotson until he got reps at starter...you didn't see it in Hamler until he got reps as a starter. Four or five guys cannot be number one at the same time and rarely are there 2 playing at the same time. When L-S became a starter, what was Yurcich trying to do? Get his freshman rbs to handle the div 1 ball. That mission is completed. I agree with the idea that L-S needs to prove himself but he has to have the opportunity in order to do so.Playoff teams typically all have "that dude" at wr/TE. "That dude" needs to be the RBs this year on this team. We have a first year starting QB and a thin receiving core.Playoff teams typically all have "that dude" at wr/TE. Not sure who else that would be for us. I dont see it In Lambert-Smith. I could see Theo Johnson having a pretty big year though.

Fixed it for you.I think between Cephas and Evans one will breakout.
They really could be ok at wideout. It's great there is positive buzz about Evans and Wallace. Based on his performance in the latter part of the season, KLS is ready to play at an all-B1G level (maybe not 1st team but 2nd or 3rd).Thats just it though, Wallace has ALSO been killing it.

Hagans was a beloved coach at Virginia, and the fact that Yurcich would have been part of the hiring process suggests he'll be able to train receivers for Yurcich's system.
The unit's weakness -- and it was/is a very big one -- was lack of size. In this conference you need some speed guys and some tall physical guys. Cephas and Mclain are not the second coming of Godwin and Blacknall but they're good solid players with size. Overall it could be the best wideouts group in quite a few years for PSU. The unit has been a relative weakness for this team for a while but it might not be this fall.
And Parker and Dotson were weaknesses just 2 years ago.. LolWallace has been killing it? What has he done on the field?
Huh?And Parker and Dotson were weaknesses just 2 years ago.. Lol
This was in response to T Boyer post above that declared the receiver room was weak for a while now...Huh?
Any word on Theo's suspension? Seems like maybe a 1 game suspension type of incident? Our WR room could be quite good if KLS has taken the next step (showed good promise at the end of '22) and Cephus delivers. Then we have Evans and Wallace and still hopeful about Saunders to make a splash. Clifford I think will be reliably solid for us as a possession guy. Finally, McClain, the FSU transfer at 6'4" 202 gives us a physical presence at WR.
Combine that with our elite tight ends (get Theo out of the doghouse) with Allen and Singleton slipping out of the backfield and we have talent everywhere. Hopefully the tight ends allow Allar to develop at a good pace while he builds rapport with the WRs. Looking forward to an explosive offense with Allar leading the way!
I exchanged texts today with Coach Franklin and he indicated it would be 2 games. Just kidding, I have absolutely no clue. I don't think we need him for WVU and any of those other non conference games if it comes to that. What concerns me though a bit is if it is like a couple games or 3 games he may not be ready to see a lot of reps vs Illini or Franklin eases him back and gives him limited game action in the first few B10 games. Even without him I see us winning every game until Ohiya. Clearly we will get him back before then unless he attends another Toga party at the SAE house and knocks out Eric Stratton their rush chairman.Any word on Theo's suspension? If he'd wreck that chick Etc Stratton, he should be instantly absolved and any wrong doing for life.I exchanged texts today with Coach Franklin and he indicated it would be 2 games. No way. First half maybe. If you want to beat the big boys you gotta play like em.Any word on Theo's suspension? Seems like maybe a 1 game suspension type of incident?
