My new computer has Windows 10. Apparently there is a computer assistant named Cortana built in. But you need a microphone so Cortana can hear you. I don't want to buy a microphone for no reason but OTOH if Cortana is useful I'll buy one. Does anyone here use Cortana? It is useful?

Also, the microphone I just looked up all seem to be headsets with a mic in front of your mouth. I don't want to wear a headset while I'm on the computer, unless there is some special reason why it makes things better. Any idea on mics are appreciated too.

Assuming your computer is a desktop unit and not a laptop. If its a laptop, the microphone is built in and you don't need anything.

Secondly I disabled Cortana on my windows 10 PC's. Something about it always listening doesn't sit well with me. Same goes for the 'home assistants' by Google and Amazon. I'll never buy something I know is always listening or always watching.

I have a desktop. I don't have a microphone at this point so it's not listening to me. But from what I've read Cortana is used for things like reminding you stuff you told it to remind you of. It's like a personal assistant to help with stuff you could do on the computer yourself. I don't really need that so I think I'll pass.
