OT: Best tropical vacation suggestions

Cayman. No BS , rule of law, great beaches, great water sports - pick your poison, weather great lots of good places to eat.
Ask Mr Potter when he gets back

Eleuthera in the Bahamas. Conch pizza. Pink sand beaches. Fish for bonefish from the beach in 2 feet of waters. Double Bay and Ten Bay are the most beautiful beaches there.

Another suggestion is the Greek Islands. Santorini be the most beautiful place I’ve ever been. Lots of great grilled Greek food, and Scandinavian women topless or less on the beaches. Paros, Ios, Mykonos. and others. It’s all good. NSFW

You can’t go wrong in the BVI or the USVI. My brother’s wife’s parents had a place in the BVI for 20+ years.....my brother and his wife have had a place in the USVI for close to five years.

Been to both. USVI still bouncing back from the hurricane destruction almost two years ago.

Would also recommend the catamaran rental from the BVI.

At the same time, ANYWHERE in Hawaii would be a great trip, too. The downside from the East Coast is losing a day to travel each way.

Go to Turks and Caicos island Providenciales. It is home to Grace Bay, the number one rated beach in the world. Crystal clear water no waves. Very clean. We have been there several times. Have done both hotels and rented condos. Fun island easy to drive around. Good restaurants and pubs. People are very friendly. I highly recommend it.

This! We've been to TCI a dozen times and never get tired of going back. It's all about the beautiful beach with great restaurants. The condo hotels cover every price point from luxury to moderate. The best part is only taking 3 hours on direct flights from Philly, Newark or JFK. Here's a sample:

My wife, daughter & I are planning to go on vacation in August. We are trying to decide where.
Looking for island type vacation. We’ve been to Aruba & St. Lucia recently, so someplace new. One current option is Great Exuma. Looking for other options as well. Would like clear waters & nice beach(es). My wife also likes to sight see. Any opinions are very welcome, including opinions on Great Exuma. All inclusive is a plus, but not mandatory. Thanks.

Cote D'Azur

I recommend Roquebrune Cap Martin or Monte Carlo.

You can do it so it is affordable and you will get 10x the enjoyment aside from just the beaches.

We just got back from St John. Been to 10 different islands in the Caribbean and definitely our favorite. Has recovered very well from the storms 18 months ago. As other suggested, spend a day or two in BVI. Virgin Gorda and Jost Van Dyke.

Thanks to all of you for sharing, all the info was helpful. We made our decision:
Turks and Caicos
Alexandra Resort (all inclusive)

Again, thank you!
As noted above please give a trip report on your return

Glad you chose TCI, but curious why you picked the Alexandra? There are only a handful of AI's on the island. Part of the experience is getting out to all the great restaurants and exploring the island.

The Alexandra has two sister resorts: Blue Haven and the Beach House. Don't really care for Blue Haven as it's not on Grace Bay and their beach is man made. There is a free shuttle connecting all three. Keep in mind each resort only has one restaurant, with the Beach House having the best.

Have a great trip and let us know how it goes.

We got a great deal on the Alexandra. We definitely plan on getting out & exploring. With the deal & ease of all inclusive, we decided to go that route (have done all inclusive in past elsewhere).

We are going back to Bermuda for the 2nd time in September (be there for the Maryland game). We found a B&B right on the harbor facing Hamilton and 50 years from the ferry station. Great place and the residents everywhere make you feel at home. Only issue is that a US citizen cannot rent a car so you are down to the ferry, taxi, bus, or rent a scooter. Plus it can get pricey there but what vacation area isn't?

Agree with Cayman and Costa Rica. A little more off the radar is curacao. It's a less developed version of Aruba. Great beaches.

Isla Mujeres, Mexico. The Isla is six miles by 1mile. It was a wonderful, relaxing vacation. We drove all over the island in a golf cart. Here is a terrific tool if you decide to go to Isla. https://www.mapchick.com/isla-mujeres-map-travel-guide/

If you decide to rent a car from the airport, go with Grace Bay Car Rentals or Sixt. They are both located on site. We also like Avis and that's an easy 2 minute shuttle ride. If you decide to only rent for a day or two, Grace Bay Car Rentals will drop a car off at your resort.

If you venture out for lunch, try and get to a couple local joints: da Conch Shack (Blue Hills), Flamingo (Grace Bay) and/or Bugaloos (Five Cays). All are great local spots. Flamingo for the curried grouper.

I know you said tropical, but seriously, the best place to go in August in somewhere on the coast of Maine. Just saying. :D

I second Costa Rica.

Personally.... I would go to Samara Costa, Rica and book rooms at the Fenix Hotel - One the Beach. It is a 7 time Tripadvisor award winner in the family division. It is #1 rated in Samara. It has a pool, nice overgrown folliage / trees for shade, full kitchens, hammocks, lounge chairs, loca fish market... everything Costa Rican. You can walk right out on the beach.

And the best part... It is owned by Wesauking Lion.

I’m on my way even as I type this!!!

Forget the islands and go to Costa Rica and/or Belize.
Spent a week on Caye Caulker in June 2009. Sleepy Island you could easily bike the whole island/ Caye. It's a short boat ride from Belize City and Ambergris. I've never been, but from what I understand Ambergris is more lively, touristy.

IIRC about now is the start of Lobster season. Ask around for Joly Roger (assuming he's still with us). You can get fresh lobster and eat it on the beach

After a long summer, the last place I’m going is somewhere hot.

Heading to Banff and Jasper NPs.
You are going to love it!!! Just got back. Bears were lurking the Trans Canadian Hwy (1) and 93/ The Icefields parkway. Saw Grizzlys on three occassions, and Black bear four different times. Missed one on the trail by about 20 minutes on the Valley of the five lakes in Jasper. A group of Highschool age students scared it off. You can easily see the four main lakes around Banff in one day. (Lake Louise, Moriane Lake, Bow Lake, Peyto Lake. Edith Cavell (Jasper) should be open again by June 15th. Most of the rest of the 'easy' trails were open.

You will most likely see Mountain Goats, Elk, Mule (?) deer, and Big horn sheep as well. We never did see a Caribou or Elk.

Enjoy!

Nice. You can’t replicate the feel of seeing a true Apex Predator in the wild. I haven’t seen a Grizzly Bear in 34 years - would love to see one again

If they are as active as they were last week, you will. If you drive 93 (Icefields parkway) after 5pm/ 6pm you will. The bears are feeding on the plants along the roadside. The sun stays up till about 9 to 9:30pm (now anyway) so it is doable. The days we went hiking (my wife and I) we went till about 8:30 or so. Luckily we only saw Elk on the trail, and not bears.

Enjoy!

I really enjoyed the Palm at Grace Bay in Turks & Caicos. The beaches and water are absolutely ideal. St. Bart’s is a personal favorite with my wife, not sure I would take kids there. St. John is lovely and the USVI’s can really use our tourism as they still work to recover from the hurricane.

I love Costa Rica as well. The only problem there is all the beaches are "public" meaning if you go to a nice resort they do not have exclusive rights to the beach. I have vacationed on the pacific side a few times. The beaches in Cancun are much better but that place is way too hot these days.

a short one might be to head to S Florida, and then take the high speed ferry over to Bimini. Bimini has some great beaches, a casino and some very very nice water to play in. The Hilton and resort world? look to be fabulous !!
