My father in law is getting rid of his fishing boat (21’ Carolina Skiff) and I may be able to take ownership. I was thinking that I would end up using it at Raystown Lake, and my fFIL says that it’s best not to haul back and forth long distances. I’d like to get an idea of how much it would cost to pay to store the boat near Raystown Lake. Does anyone have any first hand info?

Don't know. But if you leave a boat someplace make sure you have the trailer locked, as well as a lock on the engine

Most self-storage facilities have outside space. Regardless, $100-200 a month would be my guess.

Btw- I haul mu boat all over the place. Why does he think it is not a good idea?

Okay fine make sure everything is locked.
I know from experience

He said something about the trailer not being in great shape. He’s almost 80 years old and if he can’t do it, then it’s hard for him to accept that others can. Honestly, that likely why he won’t give it to me, because he doesn’t want to admit that he’s too old.

Well, unless the trailer is rusted out or something it's probably fine. You may need to install or update the wiring harness and repack the bearings. See if he knows when the bearings were last repacked. That's one of the most important things to do every 4/5 years on a boat trailer.

My advice (which you won’t ever see) is to actually store the boat after this summer and then early next spring take the old man with you to retrieve the boat and go for a spin.

Thereafter, he’ll be pleased that you are following his advice while you concurrently shop for other storage space and do what you want with your “inheritance”.
