OT: I’m gonna lose 25 pounds by June.

I've been stuck floating around 228 to 230 for a while. I've switched up my exercise to burn more calories, so I'll see if it helps.

First thing to do is to find the correct pace for yourself and don’t change it. Find a comfortable pace at a 2% incline and stick with it. You vary your workload by either changing the weight of your dumbbell or by varying the incline for the last three minutes of your sets. (The first minute of each set is always at 2%.) When I got back to this I started at 15 pounds at a 5% incline, then worked up to 20 at 7% and now 25 pounds at 6.5%. I anticipate going to 25 pounds and 7% and then 30 pounds at 6%, working up that way. I have found that I need to constantly go higher as the workout becomes easier.
I did a variation with what I got today. I kept my speed at 3.5 mph for the entire workout and carrying two 5 pound dumbbells (all I got for now)

1 minute warmup 0 grade.
For 60 continuous minutes: 1 minute at 5 percent, 9 minutes at 10 percent. Repeat 5 more times.
1 minute cool down 0 grade.

713 calories burned according to my Garmin. I was barely able to get through it. But I did do a bunch of walking this morning for work and was already a little tired.

FWIW, my daughter is getting married in October. I anticipate not reaching my goal of 195/200 until close to that time. When I started this process I was more or less guessing what my ideal weight should be and now it’s clear that it’s in the range of 195-200 pounds. I didn’t do my treadmill loaded carries all that often before the mask mandate ceased and now they’re a daily ordeal. Like I said, these suckers work like a charm. I’ll hit 195 before October, guaranteed.
If you get into intermittent fasting, you’ll lose the weight. I’ve been not eating from Sunday night til Wednesday morning for the last 5 months, then eating whatever I want the other days. I’m down 47lbs. If that’s too much, try 1 day a week or just eat in an 8 hour window every day, works like a charm.

Yeah, I’ve seen plenty of testimonials on how well intermittent fasting can work, but I lift. Lifters need to eat. It surely seems to work for you, though.

I eat from noon to 8... most days anyway. I lost about 60 pounds over 18 months doing this, and my eating mostly normal meals and cutting out most junk food. I’m pretty much at my goal weight now, and continue the noon to 8, but have been eating not quite as well. I usually just watch myself closer for a few days if I creep up a few pounds.
The one meal a day thing seems to work for many, but I find it difficult to do. I will do this maybe once a week when I think it’s needed. This worked for me, but IF is not for everyone. I am however very happy I’ve found a sustainable way to drop and maintain weight as it’s been a game changer.

Is Tom a fat? We should clarify before we give him credit.
No, no, not at all. I won't compromise @Tom McAndrew ’s privacy by posting a picture of him but he does look somewhat like this:

You don't eat anything for 2 days? I have not researched intermittent fasting yet. I lost 40 lbs 10 years ago but it all crept back up on me due to one thing or another. Began watching what I eat(cals in vs cals burned and am down 9 lbs in 2 weeks. To be honest, I am tired of eating dinner and was thinking of just sticking to breakfast and lunch and skipping dinner. I like getting outside after work which will make it easy.

Happy birthday Jim. Mine is tomorrow and I'll be stuck at 32 pounds lost unless I amputate a leg today. I said this before, but I'm glad you did this. It's helped me, and I believe others on here get our lives on the right track. I'm going to keep at it, I want to get that 50 pounds lost.
210 still, down from 224; I really wanted to hit 204 minimum. If I seem to be okay about it it might be because my daughter’s wedding isn’t until October.

Thanks for the birthday wishes. For some reason 64 seems to be a big number (The Beatles wrote a song about it, after all) and this is perhaps why I’ve been so conspicuous about it. I’ve been telling people that I hit 64 today and that “your hearing is the first thing to go.”

It’s common to plateau after working out for a long time. The body adapts to what ever you are doing in its most efficient way. Best thing is to change your workouts. Stop heavy lifting and go to light weight/ high reps. Or from bicycling to swimming. Or distance running to interval sprints..

The Rick me final number: 7.35%

219.6 from 237. Thx for the run lion Jim. Enjoyed it.
So before all you guys check out.....what health benefits have you seen? Anyone reduce insulin? lower blood pressure? Get off heart burn medicines? Change any medicines? Reduce intestinal problems?

Ain gonna ask about sexual performance...........🙈

I've definitely hit that point. I had been doing fast walks on my treadmill at no grade. I got up to 4.7-4.8 miles in an hour and 2 minutes (1 minute warmup and cool down each). I also walk outside, but I can push myself harder on the treadmill.

I switched it up to somewhat similar to what lionjim posted. I set my treadmill at 3.5 mph and do sets of 5 percent (1 minute) and 10 (9 minutes) percent grades for an hour while carrying 5 lb dumbbells. I'll see if it switches my body enough to start losing again. If not I'll try something different.

I don’t have any health issues, just trying not to look like a fat on the vessel. My next goal is to make 215 my max. By that I mean when I break 215, that becomes my new “max allowable“ weight. I go over that, I effort until I’m below it. I’m hoping by fall I’m doing this with 210.
Health wise I’m drinking less. Guess we can count that.

My 24th day on Keto and I've lost 18 lbs so far. Keeping reasonably busy with recumbent trike and heavy yardwork. Targeting 30 lbs by end of June and feeling confident
Where did you, or anyone else reading this, get your keto plan from? I wouldn't mind trying it out and see if it works for me.

I looked it up. It's basically an extremely low carb intake and replacing it with fat intake. My calorie diet is about 70% fat and my carb intake is between 20 and 30 grams per day. I'm also getting by on 1200 calories per day.

I’ve been doing my 20-minute treadmill loaded carries every day for the last week or so. That has always been my go-to fat blaster and going without the mask makes it easier.

Added these in to my gym routine. Here's my variation:

90 seconds to 2 minutes (alternate kettlebell at halfway point) one set
Starting incline 3.5, increase 0.5 at hand switch
Speed 3.3-3.9
Doing an exercise between sets (bicep curl, shoulder press, kettlebell swings, goblet squat, ab machine crunches)

Thanks for the idea. I've varied my kettlebell from 15-30. New kick on cardio that's fun.

I wouldn’t say it’s fun but it works and you get it over with fairly quickly. Dan John is big on the idea that the more you do a particular move the less effective it is in fat-burning, so it’s important to switch things up.

That sounds exactly like Atkins. The first 30 days you lose a lot. But eventually you need to add carbs up to 100-200 a day. I was on it for years but then had kids and that was out the door. The 1200-1500 calorie would Be a good switch over with no worries about carbs.

I'm hitting the beach in mid July. If I can quickly drop a few more pounds, it's worth a shot.

I'm still trying to lose but, being down ~60, I think that my joints are feeling better. As for sex, no, my memory hasn't been affected.
